Default 5axis SEMA xA Speedster Spy Shots

http://urbanracer.com/articles/anmviewer.asp?a=1665&z=2

The orgy of automotive excess known as the SEMA Show is still a week away, but your friends here at UrbanRacer.Com are committed to make the most famous auto show in the world even more drawn out then it already is (thanks to thousands of auto hacks elbowing their way through the show). So, in anticipation of our annual SEMA Show Super Coverage, we’ve got the ultimate teaser lined up for you. For the past few years, one of the most anticipated reveals at the Las Vegas Convention Center has been secretly shipped from a non-descript building in Huntington Beach to its SEMA mission. This year will be no different. The building is home to 5 Axis Models, an automotive styling and prototyping house, which - in partnership with Scion - has kicked out two of the biggest SEMA showstoppers two years running. And the newest 5 Axis Scion SEMA project just may be the best in the series.

Don’t know what we’re talking about? Let’s quickly review. Specimen 1 is the Scion xB Widebody DJ station. The first chapter in what would become a trilogy was a 5Axis orange xB that was transformed from factory stocker to a chop-top, widebody xB. But even more jaws drop at the touch of a button, which slides out a rear tray (integrated with the hatch) equipped with a full DJ station (sound system, mixers, etc.) a la your favorite Autobot character. Eat your heart out Soundwave. Part II of the 5 Axis Scion series, introduced at the SEMA Show last year, then did the impossible – it topped the xB in wow factor. How you ask? The lime green 5 Axis Widebody tC kept faithful to the well-shouldered theme and featured an F1-inspired nose with built-in carbon front spoiler. Again though, the real jaw dropper was hidden via a series of hydraulics, electric motors, and trick electronics. Hit a button and the rear hatch powers up. No biggie right? But wait, accompanying the mechanical whir of the rising trunk lid is a nice shiny 43” Pioneer Hi-definition PureVision Plasma screen (which stores vertically when not in use, not horizontally). The magic show doesn’t end though until four strategically trunk lid-mounted Pioneer surround speakers reveal themselves with the flip out of the trunk lid edge. Instant Home… uh, make that Mobile Theater for you and a bunch of your favorite friends.

So, if you’ve been following like us, you’ve been anticipating the final chapter of the 5 Axis Scion saga. And like a carefully planned out Hollywood release of a George Lucas sci-fi flick, the Scion and 5 Axis folks have been keen to keep all the details of the 2005 SEMA Show project under wraps. We’re talking “no comment” replies and biometric locks. Luckily for our readers, we’re still what our second grade teachers called us - irrepressible (or was that reprehensible?). In any case, we didn’t fail in prying the details and scoop shots from 5 Axis president and front man Troy Sumitomo last year and damn if we’re going to be denied this year!

Alas, disguised as Chinese food deliverymen, our agents were able to secure a visit into the studios of 5 Axis. After a couple of extra fortune cookies and an extra order of Kung Pao Chicken, our man was in like sin and luckily for us his eBay-bought hidden digital camera glasses worked like a five dollar charm. Read on for details and build shots of what will be defending 5 Axis and Scion’s distinction as the UrbanRacer.Com Top SEMA car of 2005 in this year’s polling. Then check back on Monday for the completed project shots – one full week before the rest of the world sees it at SEMA. Who loves you more than your friends at UrbanRacer.Com (hopefully, a lot of people).

5 Axis xA Speedster
Yes, it’s a widebody. And yes, the only Scion family member yet to undergo the 5 Axis extreme makeover, the sporty 5-door xA, was the candidate of this year’s super secret Scion SEMA project. But 5-door practicality won’t be found on the transformed SEMA project even if you put on your favorite pair of cereal box 3D glasses. Instead, the 5 Axis xA Speedster is a sleek two-seat wet dream. Slick chopped windscreen, doorless (yes, Duke boy style entry required) and sculpted sides, and integrated headrests are just some of the features of the xA Speedster. In fact, you have to use your imagination to see its humble xA beginnings – yes, the car is a fully operable Scion xA chassis underneath the new skin. Designed in house, the Scion xA speedster (being finished as we write) will have taken just seven months to complete – from concept sketch to roll-out. That actually works out to about 3,000 hours of 5 Axis team labor (5 of which were directly attributable to Troy; kidding, just kidding Troy) or about 500 greasy Chinese takeout orders. The Speedster will also incorporate the usual top to bottom attention to detail that Troy and crew gives to every project. That means working with aftermarket performance and electronic pros like Rays Engineering, Sparco, AEM, Yokohama, XBOX 360, Madcatz and Pioneer as well.

And what about the Speedster’s theme? You know – what’s the trick feature? Surely, coming from 5 Axis this can’t JUST be an exotically executed speedster. What’s the infamous 5 Axis remote control fob do this year? You’ll have to find out Monday. Here’s a clue – projectors, screens, and controllers don’t make for a dull boy.

That's nuts! They pay so much attention to details. Beyond the "wow", there's so much more going on. Anyone notice the 5-lug conversion?

i saw the xa in chicago ant the toyota national dealer meating and it was fing awesome. i got to meet troy and talk to him a little bit about the car. it wasent finished but he told me that they wanted to add a huge flat screen under the foreward opening hood so you can play driving games from the drivers seat using the stearing wheel. the color was like a peachey looking orange and i was told that they moved the front 2 seats back like 6 inches to give the illusion of the car being shorter. i also had 2 screens that folded up from behind the seats. the molded doors are realy cool too with a big hole cot out of the center of them. it has to be the coolest 5-axis scion yet
