A Noise when shifting
Hey I just got my xB a few hours ago. My first NEW car. Well I have a question to see if any of you have had this happen. When I first start the car and shift from park (into either R or D) I release the brake to start moving and I hear a metal click sound, it has done it several times, and only after I start up the car, it doesnt happen if I change from D to R or R to D. I was wondering is this suppose to happen, I never heard this in my mom's 02 echo when she got it brand new. Just wondering if this is suppose to happen or if anyone else has had this happen? Maybe I am just over anxious with a new car and I am hearing common noises that I think is something possibly major. Please let me know.
I have an auto (I've put 12,000 miles on it since September), and mine has been doing the same thing. Every morning when I leave, it is just one subtle click when I start to roll forward. It doesn't happen anymore the rest of the day. It feels like it is coming from the back, but I am not sure.
I never thought much of it though....hope its not a real problem. :?

FYI, I have a 2006 XB [automatic trans] that's still relatively new - ~2000 miles.
Within the first couple of weeks I experienced the same click noise, it appeared one day out of the blue. We hadn't fooled around with anything on the car down there (e.g., installing lighting, stereo, etc.).
Seems to be a harmless problem. This thread made me feel a little better about it - looked it up as soon as it started happening.
Indeed, to "test" what it might be, you can elminate the sound by holding down the "lock button" that you press in to engage the shifter. If you just tap that subtley, the noise goes away, while I don't recall that this works in actual practice (i.e., real brake releasing and shifting). It seems like it's some type of metal thing in the mechanics of that shift button...
