Default My experience with Strup axleback thus far

Well yesterday I recieved my Strup axle-back exhaust from partshippers.com(good service thus far), and I decided to install it since I already read the tech article on the installation. Now I'm not a grease monkey nor a good mechanic but I make my way slowly around my car. So after a hour of struggling with the rubber hangars I finally get the stock exhaust off, and anxiously couldnt await for the beautiful strup to go on. So i get the strup underneath the car and start mounting it, and once its mounted the exhaust ends up not mounting correctly, so I mangled it, twisted it, anything to try and make it fit but the brackets just did not align properly with the rubber hangers. Although, when I did get everything mounted right exhaust clamp on, both brackets in the rubber hangers....the exhaust tip was huggin the top of the muffler exit on my bumper so tight, if I were to have started the car up...Im sure I woulda melted some of my bumper. So after swearing at the Strup axleback for a few minutes I stuck back on my stock exhaust. So I thought Id share my experience so far on this piece. My thoughts however were that since Im spending a decent amount of money on a exhaust I thought it would have mounted just fine...unfortunately this didnt happen. Must say...Iam slightly irritated...

Mine has fit fine. Try these few things to correct it. Try putting something holding the can in the middle of the cut out....then the clamp between the can and the s-pipe point the stick out part towards the pass door. tighten heavily until you can not tighten anymore. This should correct your problem. If it doesnt call Charlie hes a good guy and willing to fix it or found out how.

I'm not quite sure what your talking about, possibly some diagrams to help me clear some confusion. But from what I read it seems like your saying I have an alignment problem, I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to get this thing to fit right, however the bracket towards the exhaust clamp is about 1 inch welded too low for it to get into the rubber hanger...come to think of it...the bracket near the exit of the exhaust canister might also be too low....I just e-mailed charlie at strup and Im also talking to Lip from partshippers. I just hope that when I get my strup headers I do not have to encounter another problem like this....

I installed the Strup header on my xB at a shop I frequent for my automotive upgrades ( They have way more tools, and lifts to boot). The only headache involved was removing the strut tower bar in order to create some space for an easy install. Thats it, nothing else, the entire install took 35 min - 60 min ( wasted 25 min looking for a plastic push-peg that was misplaced during the removal.)

If the exhaust install has you stumped, just take it by a local muffler shop. Usually this type of install with no welding or cutting involved will run you under $50. Not too bad to have it mounted up in good condition.

I have installed 5 of these and never had a problem.

I'd love to see pics from your install.

And, yes, money can buy happiness.

the picture posted by magicmanjk808 resembles what my install had looked like. Right now my stock exhaust is back on because I have to drive my box around.

Magicman is that a strup exhaust too?

also even before tightening the clamp on the exhaust, just having the strup hang in the rubber brackets its already kissin the bumper.

Hey Darren I appreciate the offer but for right now I think something must be done by either strup or possibly partshippers. I mean here I spent hard earned money in thinking that Im going to get what I paid for and I honestly feel right now that isn't the case. But hey if your bored tonite man give me a call...cause I aint got shiet to do.

No that first pic I posted is how mine fit at first until I adjusted it. I mean go to a muffler shop and have them fix the hangers and see if charlie will reimburse you.
