ZPI SC pulley install... Questions
Ok... so your tech walkthrough states: '...Also, due to
manufacturing variances and tolerances, you may have shims
between the pulley and supercharger... '
where are these shims? Before I start ripping things off I'd like to know where these shims may be incase they fall off, out, or God knows anything that I can't see before hand to make sure it goes back the same way...
Any chance pleeeeeeease pretty please you could do a photo walk through or video someone taking it off for us DIYers?
I hear it is pretty easy.
Thanks, can't wait till my pulley comes in!

I took some video of when we were taking mine off, i didn't have any shims either, but i'll see if i can get the video on here for you to see. My guess is the shims will be where the woodruff(sp) key is?
Yeah.
In the TRD manual, which is on our site as well, it states that you may have to shim the pulley to get the proper belt alignment. We did not have to do this for our S/C car... However, I assume since TRD put it in there, that at least one car somewhere has shims..
The bottom line is, if the belt isn't aligned correctly, the supercharger will eat belts.. this is not something specific to our pulley, but rather... the nature of a supercharger..
Just be observant when dissassembling things, take pictures if you need to, and put everything back together.. Take your time.. No points for quickest install will be awarded. :D

cool, well I guess my kit has shims. Now because of this, all I have to do is take off the bolt from the pulley and won't have to tamper with the stuff in the shaft?
I also was told it is a pain to keep the self tensioning bolt loose while taking off the belt and the pulley.... Any suggestions? I was thinking about loosening the pulley bolt first, then loosening the self tensioner bolt and slipping off the pulley really quickly. Will I have enough time and strength to then slip the ZPI pulley on quick?
also, the tension bolt, does it 'spring' back to tight if you let it go? Do you need to tighten it? I know that is probably a stupid question since it is called a self tensioning belt bolt but want to make sure.
thanks.

It's spring loaded. I would say I could do this easy if I had someone to hold the tensioner back with the breaker bar, while I worked with the pulley...
If you're working by yourself, I recommend just pulling the tensioner back, pulling the belt loose, and then working on the pulley.
