Default Changed brake pads, some issues

I just changed my brake pads but I had a few issues.

1 The pads wear out fast. I bought my car 2nd hand and the front pads were about 80% gone at 30K. I drove 6K myself and I have no idea how the other guy drove but from what I read Scions go through pads fast. I could have maybe gone another 10K but they were starting to squeek so I just changed them. I did the bed in proceedure as well as I could remmeber.

2 The pads were easy to change, but Toyota changed the pads slightly. The replacements I bought from Toyota are not exactly the same, The backing clips will not fit the new pads, you gotta buy new clips which are ($10?)extra (first time I heard of that). I just put the pads on without them, no noise so far.

3 The pads are $50. The guy at the dealership gave me a discount so $40 is OK, I appreciated that. $50 every 30K is a little high. I feel sorry for guys that take their cars into Midas, I heard they charge $100 per wheel, on sale!

Maybe I should have bled my lines but I just sucked most of the fluid from the resevor and replaced it. The brakes feel OK.

Do any of you flush your brake lines every 30K?

I am over 67k and I just now needed to do the brakes. I am unsure how your brakes were toast at 30k? That's some hard braking!
