Roof Rack? (Thule)
I just put in an order to finish up the roof rack for my new Camo Xb. I've been using a Thule rack on my old car for a few years, and am going to move it over to the box.
Has anyone set up Thule racks on their Xb? Does the fit kit (2124) work pretty well? It seems that the online manual for the 2124 fit kit are wrong (they indicate they are for Toyota Prius, not Scion Xb).
Thanks,
Webb

i'm actually thinking about turning my box into a work box....i am thinkin about pickin up a yakima (sp?) rack and using that for the simple set up, it's 225 and the install is easy and it's not permanant i dont know much about the thule but i here yakima is much better

On my old car (a Chrysler - ugh), I carried thoroughly unreasonable amounts of stuff on the rack, and it held up very well.
I installed the Thule roof rack last night. 58 inch load bars with #400 feet and the #2124 Fit kit. It fit perfectly, and seems very sturdy. The Xb has a huge roof space. I could fit a half dozen bikes on there.
I could not get the front fairing to fit to my satisfaction, so I have left it off for now. I don't know if I'll need it, with the steep front windshield. On my last car it helped reduce wind noise to a tolerable level, but I don't yet know if that will be an issue.

I received info from Thule about the precise fit of the rack onto the Xb. The measurements are not yet in the 2124 kit:
1. We apologize for the lack of information for the Scion on the
instructions. The leading edge of the front feet is 16" from the top corner
of the windshield. The rear bar goes 27" on center behind the front bar.
The distance between the feet on the front bar is 44 7/8" and on the rear
bar is 44 1/2".
2. There are some tweaks that can be done with a Fairing to improve the
fit. First the 2 outboard clamps can be moved farther inboard. This will
increase the curve. You can also move the "bars" on the outboard brackets
attached to the shield to the rear slots on the bar clamp which will also
increase curve and pitch allowing the Fairing's feet to hug the roof
tighter.

I traded my 94 Explore in on a 2005 Xb yesterday. I had Yakima racks on the Explorer but they were mounted to the factory roof rack. The Xb obviously will need a different style of mount but I can keep my towers and rails and the kayak saddles. How hard is it to to mount and unmount the racks on the Xb.
I guess what I am asking is, would I be able to put them on quickly and leave them off when the kayaks are home or would that be too much of a hassle. It would have been too much trouble with the Explorer mounts so I just left them on. I've never used the type that mount on a rackless, gutterless car like the Xb so I have no idea.

Thank you so much for posting those measurements for the Thule rack! I was truly freaking about it until I remembered just to look on this forum.
Anyway, I think I may have made a mistake by mounting the fit pads so they hook onto the inner edge of the rain guard and not the outer most lip. Am I right in my assumption? Also, I ordered the fairing but you said you had trouble with it fitting. What was the trouble? Another question: does it matter how far back I put the rack as long as the two load bars are atleast 27" apart?
Can someone please reply with these answers.
Thanks,
Me and my Bento Box

I don't think it matters too much how far forward and back the rails go. I've moved mine around a few times, without difficulty.
You definitely want to fit the feet on the outer edge of the rain guard. If you do, it fits quite well:

The rack was a bit noisy (whistling) without the fairing, so I went ahead and put it on. I don't think that it's the way the Thule people say it should fit, but I like it this way:
