I think the proper term is "rough" or "harsh" or "Truck-like" well, it is "sport-tuned." We have Tokico shocks .

 

It's definitely more sport tuned. Rough ride? Not really. I've had cars with rougher rides.

 

for stock, i think on average it's pretty stiff. but for me i like that. it feels as if i have a better "feel" of the road.

 

This subject has been disputed several times. I think i was one of the last to bring it up here on the boards. The solution i found was to install the Tein H series springs. Little drop, but a better ride then stock.

Oh, and to answer your question, yes the ride is rough for a stock automobile.

 

yes, just a tad on stock steelies, not awful tho' ... but it's real bad on large rims.

 

Must be if it's larger than 17". I just put some 17s on and didn't even notice a difference in the ride quality.

 

I put goldlines on the car and all my bad ride went away, but any quality spring is going to improve your ride. Bill

 

exactly...i love the ride when i first bought it

 

yeah i like that feeling... its not too bumpy, its just right

 

the one i test drove had 18's and a 1.75 drop and it drove fine. not as smooth as my camry but cadillac cushioning is not a huge factor in my decision for a xb. and it's not BUMPY, i think the term Scion likes to use is STARCHY

 

everybody who sat on the back seat always complained how bumpy the xB was and it makes em dizzy

well .... i got dizzy too when I sat on the backseat
the front seat doesn't feel as bumpy as the back seat

 

this whole issue is one the hardest dilemmas i face with this vehicle. I want to put larger wheels on the car and lower it, but with the ride issue it is a concern. I have a wife and kids to worry about - can't be modding all crazy like some of you.

I may go with 17's, as i know they would probably feel about the same as the steelies - now about springs.

what brand/where do you get that was claimed to ride better than stock????

ummmmm, yeah...

well anywhoo..i have coilovers on my stock civic struts...rides way harsher (or is it "more harsh"??)..overall i think the ride on the Xb is pretty sporty with out being overly harsh...how about with the TRD Springs..anyone use these?? i heard it is 10 percent stiffer, and 1 inch lower...

i used to have TRD spring on my celica, but I don't really like it compared to Eibach / Tein

I haven't tried Tein yet, but I will go with Tein

 

Yes, the xB rides rough. Rough as a cob. Rougher than my VW bus. It's particularly annoying on uneven concrete pavement.

If someone would come out with softer stock height (not "just a little lower" dangit!) springs I would buy them in a heartbeat.

That's because the front seat is typically (in almost all vehicles) positioned in the middle of the wheelbase where the impact of road defects and railroad tracks and the like are not felt as much. Think an imaginary line tying the center of the front wheels to the center of the rear wheels; as the car moves up or down, the least movement will be in the center of the line - like of a pivot point. When you're driving 35+ and hit rail road tracks or a small defect in the road, you're going fast enough that you won't feel it as much in the middle of the vehicle as you will in the rear like a school bus (remember when it was cool to sit over the wheel well?) or the very front (like the old VW buses).
