That's a J-Hook:
Below refers to the xB's rear J-hook. Same definition as the tC's.

they're used for towing cars in japan. sure is a good thing we have 'em on an american-only car....

these are on the american cars... check the bumpers... if you need to have your car towed, most older cars had some sort of hook available on the bottom of the car.... for the low slung permance cars the solution is to put a small removable flap that allows you to screw in a small tow hook... I wouldn't call it a "J hook" cause it isn't shaped like that at all, but you can expect to see these on more and more cars in the future...
