414 Miles on my NEW xA??
I bought a 2006 Xa that was sitting on the showroom floor. It just happened to be setup the way I wanted it to be so I was a happy man.
While we were going over the paper work, the mileage of course came up and the salesman said that the Scions were driven from POE to "somewhere" and this added up to over 400 miles ...He assured me that this was "normal".
What do you people think? Should I have accepted this as fact and said nothing? (basically what I did)
Or, should I have called him on it and demanded another car with no miles??
Should I assume that this was driven as a demo?

I wouldn't say "normal" because most Scions are loaded onto a truck from their Port (or Point?) of Entry. But it is possible that they got it from another dealer and someone drove it there. It's not terribly uncommon. I'd ask to find out exacly where it came from though. That seems like a little TOO much, IMO.
mione came with 147 milles when i got it it was driven from springfeild to hillsboro because some one wanted it and ten backed out at the last second and luckely enouhg it was want i wanted to it was either wait 6 weeks for another one or take this one with 147 milles on it so it was a no brainer for me
call me nit-picky but l think that's a bit high for "new"...mine had 26 miles on it when l took delivery, & l had a moment there when l wondered...WHO drove MY car w/o my permission?!?!?! hahaha
serviously though, here's another take...per CA law, we cant sell our Mercedes-Benz E320 CDI's (diesels) new...only used...& to be consdered used, they have to have 7,500 miles on them to be able to sell those cars legally
so about 150 miles is still pretty brand spankin new....

Willp66: Congrats on your new xA! Glad you were able to find one equipped like you wanted. I don't know were POE is for New York State cars; in N.C. and southeastern states, it is Jacksonville, Florida. If you know were your POE is, then you could figure the miles to your your dealer, and see if his explanation holds up. Also, as others have mentioned, it could have been a dealer transfer to your dealer. If so then the dealers name on the window sticker would be different than the selling dealer. I have purchased a couple of new cars that way to get the color or options I wanted. If that was the case, then that distance should account for the miles. Enjoy your new xA, and let us know what you figure out about the miles on the clock.
jpjxa and others, Thanks for the encouragement.
I really like my little xA and am getting about 35 MPG all around driving.
I have found the lock system to be slightly irritating tho.
1.The driver's side rear door will not open from the inside. I have to open it from the outside. The other read door works ok
2. When I unlock the drivers door, no other doors unlock, I have to manually unlock them from the inside with the toggle lock. I realize that this is a child protection function. I would like to disable this.
The dealer said the POE was on the East coast in NJ. But I would think that it would have been delivered on a truck from there.
He suggested that it was driven here. After I got thinking about that, driving a new car over 400 miles to a dealer does not make any sense at all.
He *could* have meant that they got it from another dealer 400 miles away. Actually he kind of "glossed" over that explaination.
I should have pinned him down I guess now that I think about it.

There should be a latch for that rear door. Look on the door jam area to see if there's a child protection lever or switch - at least, that's how most of them are with child protection. I suppose the xA could be different.
And does yours have keyless entry? On the Scions, you press the unlock once for just the driver's door and then again right away to unlock the rest. Would that be why the rest aren't unlocking or are you doing that too?
Where in "upstate" NY are you?

How long has the car been in your name? If less than a week, I'd sure go ask the sales mgr and let him know you are concerned about the abnormal mileage and the flimsy story that came with it.
Chances are, in the long run, 400+ miles won't mean anything over the life of the car... it may be that it was real popular for test drives....but you need to know the truth....if the story of it being driven from POE is true, every car on the lot will have 400 miles on the clock...and I kinda doubt that is true.

i dont really think its a big big deal...but i mean..new scions should only come with 3 to 5 miles on it...from getting it off the truck, etc etc. personally, my BSP tC came with 3 miles...but yea, they probably just had to drive it down to ur dealership. no biggie.

I wouldn't worry, but, I'd like to know the truth.....
my xA came with 10 miles on it. they told me when i went in to order it that it would have 10 miles or less on it, between getting it from the port to the train, from the train to the truck, and from the truck to the dealer, then they had to do inspection tests to make sure it was running okay.
but i don't know why there would be 415 miles on it. that seems excessive.

ack154, Upstate NY for me is Jamestown. That's about 65 miles straight south of Buffalo.
grantr, Thank you for the unlock info! I don't have the keyless entry. Turning the key TWICE does indeed unlock all the rest of the doors..Much appreciated info!
I got my xA March 10th 2006. Jamestown doesn't have a Scion dealer so I had to go to Erie Pa. Yes I agree with you folks..414 miles on a new car is excessive.
His explaination *at the time* seemed plausable. A new car salesman has this gift to make most anything seem reasonable.
But if I had it to do over again, I would have questioned it..

my tC had 1 mile! the salesman wouldn't even LET me drive it on the road! when I picked it up the next day, it had 2 miles because they took it to the gas station down the street.
not to split hairs (nor stray too far OT), but does anybody happen to know what the odometer starts at? like, when it rolls off the assembly line, does it read 0 miles or 1?

I figured as much. I'm just lookin for a "1" or a "0". In other words, what does the ODO read as it rolls off the assembly line? I'd assume it starts at 1, since I've never ever heard of anyone with 0 miles, but plenty of people with 1.
I would guess that it has to start at "0".....when the wheels hit the ground, someone jumps in, fires it up, checks radio, horn wipers, then drives it to a run off area where the motor is given a run thru the gears on a set of rollers, a quick bath to get most of the assembly check marks off, then out to the holding lot to be transported by either train, truck or ship...it is really something that so many have just 1 mile on them.....
I know, TMI...
