Default Kicker Squares

Hey all

Does any one have Kicker Squares in their box? If so please post pics. I am trying to figure out how I am going to get my 2 L7 12" Squares in my box. If any one has any ideas that would also be great.

Thanks

It all depends. Granted, I am not exactly a guru of these things, but I can recommend some things.

If you do not care about your trunk space, you can just get 2 separate sub boxes, and stick one on one side and one on the other. They could either face each other, or face the trunk.

You can also have a custom box made by your local shop. This will be more expensive, but it would probably look better, even though it took up most if not all of your trunk space.

I know that I took 2 10'' rockfords, each in a separate wedge box, and tossed them in the trunk. They fit perfectly either facing the trunk or facing each other, and it leaves me with a little bit of space in the middle. The 12''s will be much harder to do, but definately doable.

Those L7's hit like a *****!!! Don't run seperate prebuilt boxes. Most of the time they are too small or ported and not ported well. I myself am not a big fan of ported boxes. Sealed boxes hit harder and let your sub hit the lowest frequencies it can where ported boxes are tuned to a specific low frequency. So when your music goes lower than that frequency the sub muds out. I would recommend a good sealed enclosure. For best results DO NOT!! get a perfectly square box. Even better have a fiberglass one made for your box. Its on the expensive side but well worth it. It looks way sick too but more so it will hit precise. I myself run JL in my other car but I will be putting in 2 L7's as well with a Kicker XS amp. Needles to say I will have 2 custom fiberglass boxes(1 for each sub) Because I still need space. http://www.sharkskincustoms.com/ Here you go...they have custom fiberglas 12" L7 enclosures. Hope this helps man.

WOW....225.00 for a fiberglass sub enlosure. Pretty decent price for being able to get custom colors. By the way...ALWAYS run your sub MONO never stereo. With the proper power to your subs and this box.....That thing should hammer!!

rofl sealed boxes hit harder...... hmm... thats a joke.... yes sealed boxed will hit harder with about 3x the watts ... if you want to get loud and hit hard get a ported box built for your subs.. tuned to anwhere from 30-37 hz so you will a sql setup... if you want all sound quality tune below 30hz and if you want no sq all spl tune 40+ you dont need to have 2 seperate boxes they will be just fine sealed will get loud with alot of power... ported will get loud with the fraction of the power ...... its up 2 you

Yeah there are not too many things made for L7's. Heres a couple installs on a Xb and Tc. http://www.socalcustomaudio.com/

By the way misformartin I didnt say he needed 2 seperate boxes. I said thas what I am going with so I can still have space. And by the way its not a power thing with sealed or ported its mostly space issues. You dont have to run some huge amp for sealed enclosures either. I run a kicker XS50 to my 3 JL 10w6's. It's only 50 watts and my subs hammer like crazy. Yeah its bridged (through 3 DVC 3ohm subs) so its putting out more like 900 but its also a 1/2 ohm stable amp. It's still only a 50watt amp though. So there are many ways you can go. Look at most SPL systems. Most enclosures are sealed NOT ported. You can get decent bass out of a ported box too but you will get peak potential out of your subs in a sealed enclosure. They are more efficient. So....go hear a sealed enclosure at peak Vs. a ported one at peak. Then you will see the real "joke" as misformartin says.....thats why all the crap brands people buy in circuit city, best buy that are ported sound like junk and nice custom built sealed enclosures are only built in good quality shops. Hmmm....come to think of it all the fiberglass eclosures iv'e seen have all been sealed as enclosures as well. Think there might be something to this sealed enclosure thing misformartin? I'll bet he thinks BOSS and Thump speakers are good too....LOL

well... i hate to break it to you bud but yes most spl comp cars that do other classes besides street classes they are all sealed because they have like 5-6 15's and in a relitivly small space so instead of porting the boxes they just put 3-4x the rms wattage to them rofl and if you think your sealed ***** come sit in my xb with a ported enclose...

as far as SPL, ported always get louder... if you're wanting straight SQ with the flattest response curve, sealed is obviously the way to go. Yes, sealed do play lower frequencies, but ported will play those low enough frequencies a little louder (depending on tuning)... a "one note wonder" ported enclosure would be one tuned to anything above 40Hz. alot of real music will drop below 40Hz and if your ported box is tuned above the frequency you're trying to play, the enclosure will unload and your sub will most likely over-excurt...

personally, I prefer the sound of a low tuned ported enclosure. they are louder, but have a more peaky response.

My buddy is running 12 12' planet audio subs, sealed, in the extended cab of a GMC Sonoma...He told me to do sealed for my two subs (we built fiberglass boxes). As far is which is better, ported or sealed, thats personal. For me...in this case, I would just do whatever says space. Of course...I wouldnt ever get any squares either.

I know that wasn't directed to me, but I personally wouldn't get the kicker solo's because they're just not very musical. They can sound decent, but their forte is getting loud, which they do very well. When talking about superb accuracy, the solo's are definitely not ones to be noticed.

Well....i'll hate to tell ya "bud".....this debate will go on forever. Everyone has their preferrence as to sealed or ported. As an installer in past years I have installed more sealed than ported enclosures. I also run sealed in my ride now as I said before. And NO I don't have 5-6 subs either. I have 3 JL 10w6's...and NO I don't have to run big power to make them slam. If you read correctly I never said ported boxes don't hit. What I said is that ported boxes can't hit below what they are ported to without sounding like mud and unless you have a custom built tuned box. Most prebuilt ported boxes will usually sound like ____e(this is why I made referrence to crcuit city, Best buy etc...). Once again.....it's all personal. That was the point I was trying to make. If your gonna spend the didgits than whatever you decide(sealed or ported) make sure its built well.

ive have one 12" square with 1200 watts in my box(ported).. sounds pretty good on the inside, but from the outside my xB sounds like a cube shaped vibrator.

yes the long standing debate of which is better, sealed or ported, still goes on today. If you are going for SPL ONLY ported seems to be the way. Ask Kyle Witherspoon and his Pioneer xB, 2 15" Pioneer subs in a "secret" designed ported box hitting 174db +, with 4 amps running them.

I'll most likely be running 2 L7 12's in a ported box. I just want to vibrate the cars next to me.

Yeah....I am gonna try two 12" L7's in my new box too. I love my JL's in my Xterra but kicker is way less expensive and they still hit pretty good. Although some JL 12 W6's would be nice. Gotta dynamat the hell out of the whole box though.
