I want one really bad and went to circuit city to get one a while back since they do free installation if you buy the equipment from them...they wouldn't do mine since my xB is a 5speed. ___. The local car audio ship wants like $400 to do the install not even including equipment. I've heard it's a really difficult install so I don't even want to bother trying to do it myself because I would hate to screw up wiring on my more or less brand new car.
I have got a Viper. I had it installed at Best Buy about a month ago and I love it! I do not know how I have ever done without a remote starter. It is great because with this cold front that has been moving through my area I can start my car early at work and be warm by the time it is time to go!

I'd recommend against it. It wastes gas and it's bad for your car. It's MUCH better for your car to warm it up by driving it! (Gently, of course.)
You must life in a nice southern climate.
I had one on my other vehicles and loved it. It was a Valet. Fantastic for getting it cleared on the frosty/icy mornings. Some now come with timers so you can have it run at a certain time. Mine would run 10 minutes every 4 hours. Doesn't sound like much, but it would make the windshield practically ice/frost free.

I want one but just haven't ponied up the $$$.
Having the timer would really be awesome...man you guys got me looking into them again.
Don’t cheap out and buy a Bulldog or other such brand. The in-laws and I have owned Bulldogs and they are not good. Remotes break easily, range is minimal and they have been known to start car fires.
I have the Viper 791xv ($500 installed), and I love it.
I was able to have my 791 uninstalled from my last car for $50 and re-installed in the box for $150.
We just had a new Python 1400XP installed in the wife’s 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix. Total cost was $300.
So if you buy a quality car starter you can move it from car to car and own it for years.

And waste gas and cause engine wear while doing so . . . .
I don't like to run the engines of any of my vehicles unless they're transporting me somewhere. So if I need to scape ice and sweep snow off the vehicle windows, I start it up, let it idle with the defroster blowing while I'm scraping and sweeping and then I drive as soon as I can. Anything more is wasteful.

I see your point pooder but when I'm getting out of work, its 0deg, there is snow and ice on the car it is nice to hit the remote start button on the Viper 791xv and watch the screen verify that the car started while knowing the front window is clearing so I can see to drive and that the back window defroster grid is working as well. The car being warm inside is just a bonus!
I will keep the starter thank-you!

What it Basically comes down to is personal prefernce. I may self had had my box since 04' with a CompuStar 1/4 mile radius and have loved it. as soon as the temp hits -10 starts up for 15 minutes. its to ensure that you're car will start up in the morning and also to have the convinence of having a warmer car in shorter time, i suggest to jus keep up on tip top shape on the maintenience;)_

I got one and I lOVE it. The early mornings with ice on the windshield to be able to go out to my car on the way to work and not have to wait for the car to heat up and then defrost the windshield. It's nice to have the xtra 5 minutes to sleep in.

EXACTLY! I got my remote right next to the alarm clock!

I have one! It works great... Unless you leave it in gear and starts lurching forward. Then that kinda sucks.
Mine even can be set up so when it drops below a set temp. it will start to keep from freezing.
With pager um... $350. (Trying to think back that far.)
