Default Passenger Seat Prob. Plz Help

I have no idea how it happened but when my friends re-entered my car, the lever on the side of the passenger seat won't let my seat move back or forward...it still allows it to recline, but not forward and back. I had to use the lever underneath the seat to do that.

Anyway to solve this problem myself? or do I have to go to the dealer to claim some warranty?

it sounds like something underneath the seat isn't releasing the track...look under the seat and if you don't see anything jump out at you, then contact your local dealership and inquire about warranty coverage. But I'd definitely check because it could just be a spring or rod out of place that isn't releasing it anymore....you may want to consider comparing it to the driver's seat.

so there aren't any disconnected springs or lines...problem is the lock closest to the arm rest won't release when i unlock(when its leaning forward for adjustment) the seat, but the other one still works... its getting really annoying, anybody knows the mechanics of the seats? i don't want to take my lights under my seats just so it would look unmodded... don't want my extended warranty voided...

I don't know the full mechanics, but you could always just take the seat out....if I recall (like in most cars) there are only 4 *six at most* bolts that hold the seat in. Take those bolts out and pull the seat out of the car and you can get a better look at it.

good idea, i never considered taking the seat off; maybe because i might not be able to put it back in or something...is there a nut that i have to watch out for before unscrewing the bolt? or is it just a bolt? (newbie)

it should just be a bolt, it's not involved at all except putting the seat back in without scratching the car. I did that once with another one of my cars....so be careful around your paint, but otherwise it should be fairly simple.

are you tilting the seat all the way forward before trying to slide the seat? I know mine wont slide unless it's all the way forward...

yea, its all the way forward... the lock on the right side(closest to the door) disengages when its tilted all the way forward, while the lock on the left won't... i had to use the lever underneath the seat to move it...

where in the bay area are you..?

pretty much true what Joe mentioned.... seat needs to be tilted all the way forward to let it move back and forward..

but ehh... i'm used to just reaching my hand underneath to move it.

unfortunately, in the middle of nowhere...Antioch...
wel, im guessing that one of my friends broke it since im not the one in charge of letting people out from the back... i didn't see who, but I've heard some really hard clicking noise when my friend moved it forward to let the other one out(or he let himself out)...like it was half way tilted... im trying to figure out what triggers the other lock so i could check whether something is disconnected or what not...

it might be something within the back of the chair (that you can't see unless you rip the chair apart). I haven't taken the seats of the tC out yet to look. If you're really stumped you might want to try to get up with someone at scion and see about warranty...

Before you go to the dealership, try taking the seat out (as suggested earlier). It's really not hard - only held in by four bolts.

Look at the springs and the arm. I am betting that the wire that pulls the lever out to let the seat slide is not connected. It might have gotten bent when your friends were getting out. But it's not a hard fix.

My friend had the same problem in his car and couldn't figure it out for the longest time, until I took the seat out and closely examined it.
One thing to remember, if the wire did get bent, just bend it back extremely well... it will be more likely to bend again if you just put it back to the place it was.

... or it could be a simple spring got disconnected. But I seriously doubt anything really broke.
And if you can't find the problem or you find it but can't fix it, you will be just that much more knowlegeable about your car.

See, told you that it was that "hanger looking thing".

Glad it was an easy fix, and I'm glad that we could help.
