Can someone tell me what a "diffuser" is?
I've seen these on many different imports. Its been awhile and there are alot of new aftermarket parts/accessories available now then when this huge import kraze began.
What purpose do this really serve on a daily driver...beside giving it a sweet Touring look?

BTW- wanna say thanks to Squirell this photo...had a hard time explaining the question w/ out a picture!
Very sweet ride btw!

in aircraft, such plates are used to split airflow into engine inlets and such.
On a vehicle as unaerodynamic as a Scion, all such a plate would do is look kewl.
If you run into someone making claims that such devices improve the aerodynamics of a vehicle, ask them to show you their tuft test photos! If they can't, they're shooting in the dark.

The front lip creates a split in the airflow over the car before it hits the bumper. In turn, it pushes air over the car and thru the radiator. This helps create downforce over the front wheel. I built one for my Mazda MX-6. It seems it only makes a difference at any speed over 80. I also had splitters on the sides of the bumper. WHen I sold them off my car, I realized the difference right away. I tested them on highway on ramps and the car was way loose on the front w/o them. A diffuser usually relates to the peice under the rear bumper that help smooth airflow from under the car back into the slipstream.
