How Many Of You Have The Extened Warranty For Your Scion tC?

not alot of scion owners have extended warranties because most of us modify the car which would void the warranty anyway.

also, since we all believe in the awesome power of toyota. we perceive our cars to be bulletproof and will run for 200k miles with scheduled maitenance only.

anyway, i don't have extended warranty.

I got it with mine, I chose the Platinum 7yr, 100K Mi. plan. with 0 deduct. I think it's worth it. I Realize that Toyotas are very reliable, but anything can break. All it would take is a few small computer components and it could pay for itself.

I got an extended warranty because I thought I would be putting on a bunch of miles going to and from college...though that hasn't really happened much.

I also got it because I bought a 2005 and you never know with first model years. I mean, what if the sunroof shattering thing happened and it didn't turn out to be a recall?

Plus I had an extended warranty on my old Saturn when my engine seized, $100 for a reman motor is a sweet deal.

I got the ext. warranty, however, even if we do mods, like say a turbo, the warranty isn't nessarly voided is it? I mean they can't honestly say that a turbo would cause anything and everything to break in the car. I'm I correct? I know there's a law out there, forgot the name but I read up on it and that's my understanding of it. So yeah the engine may not be covered but that shouldn't void the rest of it, still worth getting IMO.

a turbo will MOST DEFINATELY void ur warranty - the thing is - they have to be able to prove that it was so and so that caused this to happen.

like if your cd player breaks they cant blame it on your turbo.

i have it and i got it when i bought the car. can i still cancel it and get a refund even though its already been paid? if so, how? can anyone tell me?

The Magnuson Moss Act states that a manufacturer cannot void your warranty for using an aftermarket part to replace a part the manufacturer would not provide for free. However, if something you have problems with may have been caused by the modification, for instance you get water in your MAF from your CAI; you void that part of your warranty. You can check you contract and owner's manual under "WHAT IS NOT COVERED" to be sure.

Yes, I get the fact that turbo voids certain things, etc, etc, that's what I was trying to say but it obiviously wasn't typed clearly LOL. Sry for the confusion. Equinox, would you mine explaining why you think its pointless and why people that know you know why? A PM would be fine, I'm curious.

Here's my take on extended warranties, from my site, which refers people to Warranty Direct:

Yes, this works out to about $250 per contract. Like any insurance, extended warranties are best bought to limit downside risk, and from a company that is almost certain to remain in business. Be aware that, like many extended warranty providers, Warranty Direct does not pay for diagnostic charges and will only pay up to the "usual and customary" amount of labor, about $85/hour.

Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but I believe in calling it like it is. Essentially, if you're really worried about what MIGHT happen, then an extended warranty makes sense. If you rationally focus on what is likely to happen, one won't. Don't expect a warranty to pay off. You face much better odds at the blackjack table.

I have always thought it odd that people will buy a Toyota for its reliability rep then also buy an extended warranty.

So then, since a majority say it't not needed, then is it possible to get the pro-rated amount back? I think thats what the ori. poster was also asking.

To get the amount back, you should be able to contact either a dealer or scion directly.

As for whether I have one or not, I do. I also have the platinum 7 year plan, but only 75k miles on it. Considering the car is almost 2 years old and not quite 10k miles, I'm not worried about running out.

I also got the Platinum Warranty, 7yr/100K mile extended warranty for $1,295. They told me they only offer the Platinum Plan (vs. the gold or silver or whatever) because our cars have a lot of electronics inside so this will cover the most stuff. I do believe in Toyota but you never know, nothing is perfect! God forbid the AC breaks down or some other expensive fluke.

I think the extended warranty mostly buys peace of mind for the owner and also if you ever decide to sell your scion, the ext. warranty is a good extra selling point. I know I'm obsessive about my car so I decided to get it, I hope I never need it but it's good to know I have it if something ever happens.

I ALSO bought the extended warranty (

latinum)! However, it DOES state on the back that you can CANCEL it whenever you want. If you cancel within the first 30 days, you get your money back. Within 60 days, money back minus $30.. After that, you get a pro-rata refund based on your time/mileage when you cancel..

FrosyBlizz, yours was ONLY $1,295!!?? They charged me $1995 for mine!!! Dam, I might have to cancel mines!

I bought it only because it was $20 more per month if i included it in the financing. Hopefully that 30-day cancelation for 100% refund is true to what it says..

I also did the extended warranty for an extra $20 mo and GAP and now I meet up with a fellow tC owner and come to find out he has a turbo installed on his car and selling off parts, I know he had a K&N Typhoon intake, either an MMW or AW header, Draxas s-pipe, ? midpipe, and a Greddy (SP2???) axelback. Would I be fine with replacing the OEM stuff with what he has from the s-pipe to the back? Doing those mods don't mess with much at all, well maybe the 2nd cat but I'm not in CA and don't expect to see the dealer at all(knocks on wood).
