I tried, but it seems like only a mod can put it on there. So I guess depending on how many people think this is good information, then they will eventually put this in the Tech section.

Hey do you have to use the JBL amp or can I use a aftermarket amp?

I'm not sure that you can, however I suppose anything is possible. You would have to get the pin outs of the the Navigation head unit and the pinouts of the Scion radio harness and see if you could create a new harness that would combine an external amp. I haven't really looked into this but since this is a Camry navigation unit, you could probably look around other Toyota forums to see if anyone has replaced their JBL amp with an aftermarket yet keeping their navigation unit in tact.

Hope this answers your question.

This picture was blatantly ripped from SiennaSaurus @ Siennaclub.org, all credit goes to him as he has extensive knowledge about installing the Solara unit in his Sienna.

This is in addition to the install instructions. Apparently, the JBL amp does not power the antenna amplifier as you'll notice when you compare the wire harness and your radio harness. There is one wire that is not used. So what you need to do is splice the ACC (It's the gray wire from the blue radio harness) with the ANT (the black/red stripe wire) together and then you will power the antenna amplifier when you turn on the ignition key. This is illustrated by the red circles.

There is also another wire that I didn't mention either. It's the single wire that comes attached on the Navigation wire harness and this needs to be attached to ground. Any ground will do just make sure it's grounded. I personally did not notice a difference when I didn't connect it and when I did, but that's what the instructions said so I just followed them. This is illustrated in yellow circle.

I would like to thank Troy at OEMValue.com for helping me figure this out otherwise my wife would still be annoyed by the radio's weak reception. Now she's a happier person.

Default Yet another update

Here's yet another update to everyone who wanted to know if you can use an aftermarket amp. Well simply the answer is yes, but you may have to figure out how to splice the rest of the wires to go directly from your vehicle wire harness to the Nav unit. Here's how "petegaz" did it in his 4runner.

http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showth...5&pagenumber=1

He also has a personal site explaining his install if you guys need more info.
http://www.norgetech.com/navsup.htm

I looking into the voice recognition right now, so I'll update everyone again later.

Well I think PIE and Blitzsafe both have AUX controllers that will work on the navi head and this will allow you to connect a MP3/CD changer and still be able to control it from the screen. I think... lemme look into this more.

Well here's what I found out from the messageboard and siennaclub.org

http://www.siennaclub.org/forum/inde...showtopic=4025

It's possible to add it and the screen controls work but it won't display the mp3 name.

On the other hand, someone else on the board also contacted Blitzsafe and they said they should have an video/audio adapter coming out sometime in the middle of August, which is about now. Here's that link.

Hello again.
Just wanted to maybe help someone out with a link.
I have been looking around for this unit.
I am posting this link to help someone only. The only reason I am not bidding is because he says it is untested and for parts use only?
Could be a good deal if you have some money to risk????
Now the linky!

Thanks for the find k4kas. I do have to warn people though that the 2002/2003 camry had a seperate Nav ECU that was located in the trunk. Plus the back of this unit looks like it came from a Solara which uses the digital JBL amp. The one that I installed is the Camry 04 with an analog JBL amp. The digital JBL amp was more for the upgraded 10 speaker package found is Sienna's and 4Runnner's. I'd get more information from the seller before bidding on that unit, as it might not work correctly.

Is there any way to change the intro graphics from Toyota w/ the Toyota Logo to Scion w/ the Scion Logo? Just curious. :?:
