The Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ have been on sale in the U.S. for just over a year, yet the question still looms — which one would you choose?

A trip to reddit gives us a cross-section of the public’s consensus.

SKMonkyDeathCar says:

“I’m holding out for a used one, but I’ve driven both and it really comes down to looks. I prefer the BRZ. [With] HID lights as standard, standard navigation, I think the BRZ’s front end looks happier. Seriously, look at the top two pics side by side. [The] BRZ is smiling, FR-S is frowning.”Other reddit users, like  ArtemisEntreri12 preferred a more menacing look, saying, “I personally like my cars angry.”

klekle17 indicated how the BRZ’s front fascia may be expressing malevolence: “The BRZ has that devious, up-to-no-good smirk IMO.”

In his March 2012 Road & Track article, Sam Mitani summed it up best:

“It seems [Toyota/Scion and Subaru] want the customer to consider the FR-S and BRZ as one model, with the Scion and Subaru badges representing different trim levels, in much the same way you would look at, say, a base Corvette and a Z06. In this case, the base car is the Scion [$25,255 base price], while the same car with what we’ll call the ‘Subaru BRZ package’ represents an upgrade version [$26,265 base price].”

If you desire even more of a premium feel, Subaru offers a BRZ Limited, with prices starting at $28,265.

Perhaps now your decision can be less laborious and you can get back to worrying about other choices, like paper versus plastic, and boxers versus “tighty-whities”.
