FR-S Sales Too Low to Support Performance Model

Bad news first. According to an interview with AutoExpress,  Toyotas’ European Vice President of Research and Development, Gerald Killman, thinks that a hotted up FR-S is unlikely. “A faster version of that car would be at the top of most people’s wish lists, but like the cabriolet, it is hard to justify a business case to push either model into production based on current sales.” Bummer.

Good news? Autoblog contacted both Scion and Subaru for a response, and they both seemed pretty happy with their individual sales numbers. Subaru moved 8587 BRZs last year. Scion didn’t do too badly either, with 18,000 cars buzzing their way off of dealership lots.

At the very least, it doesn’t seem likely that Toyota’s going to can the FR-S. Just don’t hold your breath for a turbo convertible.
