Finally, some words on the next-step of the FR-S’ march towards the future. We’ve had a pretty good idea that Toyota was going to do something with the FR-S (probably either turn it into a wagon or a sedan), but now we have slightly better information on which to pin our hopes and dreams. Sorta.

According to MotorTrend, a source close to Toyota mentioned that Toyota is following through with a sedan. “It’ll be easy to bring the B-pillar forward, add a rear door, and slant the rear roof section to create a viable sedan look,” said their source.

The new car will (tentatively) be 187 inches long, 70 inches wide, and 55.1 inches high, and will ride on a 108.2 inch wheelbase. If you’re keeping tally of dimensions at home, you’re right in noting that it’ll be significantly longer that the FR-S but with a similar width and height.

That a the sedan would be longer and heavier than the coupe is obvious. What’s really interesting is the potential powertrain. Finally, the 86 will be getting a turbocharger. And, possibly, a hybrid AWD system too. Crazy right? What’ll likely happen is that Toyota will get things started with the turbo sedan. If that does well, they’ll spring for the in-wheel electric motors for the FR-Sedan’s front wheels.

Of course, this is all hearsay. That said, here’s to hoping that this bit of hearsay happens.
