Local Motors, the makers of the sublimely awesome Rally Fighter, a Baja ready racer you can build yourself, now wants to take on Toyota and Ford. The small Arizona based shop announced that after they complete their awesome idea of a complete 3-D printed car, will be moving forward and building a FR-S/Fiesta ST fighter.

What the company wants to do is create a low cost street-legal track day car. They want a motor up front, a proper manual transmission in the middle, and all of that powering the rear wheels out back. According to the press release, the Local Motors track car will take inspiration from the already fairly big market of track day cars. Cars such as the KTM X-Bow, the Caterham lineup, the BAC Mono, and my favorite the Ariel Atom.

What’s awesome about their plan is that they want you, the buyer, to be able to remove and put back all the body pieces onto the car after you’re done with your track day. Essentially, you have a normal road car for your everyday use, but when you want to hoon the hell out of it. Remove some bolts and body panels, and rock out!

Here are the specs that Local Motors is shooting for.

-A 4-cylinder engine that’s easily tunable with around 200hp.

-A stripped out weight totaling 1600lbs

-Two seats so you can bring a friend

-Front Engine/ RWD

-STICKSHIFT!!!

-IRS in front and back

-And a total cost of $30,000

That last one should interest you the most since it’s already $25,000 less that the Ariel Atom, and around a $100,000 less than the BAC Mono. Local Motors is taking suggestions now on how to build the car, and what parts the car should use. I already suggested using a Subaru FA20 engine due to the already large aftermarket. Head over to the blog to put your two senses in too!
