Bird's new ride!
1 Attachment(s)
Came into this frame and figured I'd build a new bike for myself. I looked it up and this was originally a Trek mtb, a pretty good one too. Looking to build this into a SS so stay tuned!!!!!
If anyone knows any places to look for parts, please let me know! Attachment 86368 |
I have a Trek MTB too, love that thing.

Are you going with two or just one training wheel?
|
Just grabbed a Dart 1 fork setup. Supports disk brakes, but the front wheel I have hits the mechanism. Gotta figure that out.
I need to find a shop that has parts and my searches online are turning up nothing. Help. |
there is a bike show in bloomingdale across from the BofA next to the subway on Hamburge Tpk
|
I actually race... lol.. so I know a few things about mtn bikes :)
as far as parts for your bike, honestly I would check out eBay. There are a lot of bike shops around the country that list some of their inventory there. They also tend to sell bike parts for less then you could get them if you walked into your local bike shop. If you're familar with building bikes that's cool... I maintain my race bike myself, so if you have any questions on the build feel free to shoot me a PM and I'll help you out. |
Yeah, I've seen that shop Mac. There's one in WM too, right in town. I am going to go talk to the local shop here at school to see what I gotta do here. I do not want to spend more that $300-400 total on the project.

speaking of bikes.. I need a new rear brake cable..

Can you tell me of some fairly inexpensive but decent parts to turn this into a good xc/trail bike? Single speed.[/quote]
well if you're looking to make it more of a commuter bike then you'd probably want to go with a ridged fork. If you're going to do actual XC then I'd say do a suspension fork. A single speed setup is beneficial really only for a "commuter" bike. If you going to do XC then a single speed sprocket isn't the best, but I have seen people do it. ridged forks are generally quite a bit less expensive then a suspension one. with your frame being a newer one, it is probably safe to say that you're going to need a 1 1/8" steer tube (which means it's threadless). for the headset I'd go with an AheadSet brand one. It's well made and will last you a long time and wont break the bank to get one. If this tells you anything, I've been running that same headset on my race bike for several seasons now it still performs great. |
Lolz, just shot you a pm.
The commuter bike is my other mtb. I ride it everyday to class and around town. I was hoping to make this new one a xc or singletrack bike. |
So... it has to be said...
Q: How many kids with ADD does it take to change a lightbulb????? A: Wanna ride bikes? Where on campus did you find that? |
Nice, I didn't know we had any bike riders here on SL. For parts check eBay... The sport is still much larger in Europe and it is a lot easier to find parts internationally than locally. Like my recent bike purchase was a GT Transeo 1.0 that I got from Germany for literally half the price listed here in the states, even after shipping.

buddy of mine just got a Gary Fisher mtb. paid around $700
|
I paid 300 for my current bike. This new one is shaping up to be a franken bike of sorts. So far I only have used parts for it, lol. I am not going to spend a lot now. Possibly I will redo things in the future and spend some coin.
