More FT Rumors - Sold as a Scion?

I know some others have thought this for quite a while... I STILL don't want to believe it - but that is more or less because of the ridiculous numbers of non-stop rumors for this car. I really don't know what to believe anymore - so until I see something concrete and not from 'sources' that someone has, pass the salt.

Here we go...

And I'm sure there are more. I just don't feel like finding them.

A $25k Scion? I don't know about that. I realize they would be trying to "save" the brand... but there are a few things that I don't quite understand.

a) That's an expensive Scion. I thought the new tC was pushing the price point higher than they wanted - but $25k? Wow.
b) You can't even get the new tC yet... maybe that will "save" Scion? (probably not) But that and the iQ haven't even been given a chance yet and now the FT is supposed to save us all? Seems a bit premature.

i think its just going to be one of those 'on-going' deals of rumors. because if someone can afford 25k i'm guessing they'll get something a 'step up' from scion.

Hey well i know the rumors are true. i saw one on the road today! And im not lying cause i dont lie. And im cool so yea i know im right! Oh and my stock tC puts down 170whp on churches dyno so mine rocks! ROFL I couldnt resist!

Well it's true. I put in a pre-order at the Scion dealer. Just have to know people that know people that know more people.

I heard about this a while back. What I don't understand is why all the hate if it were it be badge as a Scion. I'm sure that at $25K Scion will upgrade the interior.

Hyundai has it Genesis, Kia has cars over 25K, granted there not sport cars but 25K for a kia? I don't think anyone will notice the difference between a FT-86 with a Toyota badge or a FT-86 with a Scion badge performance wise.

The only problem I see is the Hate coming from all the JDM homo's. U guys know who I'm talking about.

ack154 10-11-2010 06:59 PM

As long as the car is cool, the badge doesn't really matter to the people that will really want it. Haters gonna hate.

What is a bit odd is just that Scion would make such a price jump. I'm pretty sure one of their initial targets for the brands had something to do with remaining inexpensive (under $20k). This would just blow that out of the water - which makes it very strange.

yea but genesis is also turbo'd. this is now going to be 2.5l instead of 2.0 and the subaru version is apparently going to be europe only.

If you actually think about it though, how many people actually paid 20k for a brand new Scion? I've met people who paid close to or over 25K for their tC after buying all the TRD cr@p that is available. Yes, even the cargo net that goes in the back.

Yeah 25k for a Scion does seem crazy, but tC's sometimes sell for the same amount and they barely push 160hp.

I remember reading about a guy who paid 28k for his tC after buying every TRD product on the list!

highvoltage1 10-11-2010 07:52 PM

I dont hate on the brand name. I hate on the runaround BS and the fact that they arent sticking to what was said we would get. 20k rwd 200hp! Honestly if its all motor rwd 200hp and 23k and looks good id bite. I just want to know what we are getting for sure. Price also and a set release date!

Interesting. I thought Toyota needed this car for their image more than Scion considering they have nothing in their lineup appealing to anyone under 25. But then again the money is all going to the same place so I guess it doesn't really matter.

06sciontcnda704 10-11-2010 10:18 PM

im in no rush to get rid of the tC until this is out maybe 2 years ill wait no biggie

06sciontcnda704 10-11-2010 10:22 PM

price and power really shouldnt matter i mean look at cars like the mini cooper s and miata all high price tags but still fun to drive despite little power output

highvoltage1 10-12-2010 12:42 AM

yea cause of weight! But that Jalopnik rendering is horrible. They can really screw this one up or actually do it right! My money is on screw it up!

Dang, that's why I didn't see this! Damn you!!

:P

Toyota should just let the concept die. This is going to be an overpriced disaster for them.

just sayin

10gxiong 10-15-2010 02:30 AM

I think they should leave the Toyota badge on the FT-86. Either way they go, I'm not going to buy it anyway. I'd rather invest $25k in either an EVO, STI, or 370z.

greenbean24 10-15-2010 04:15 PM

i actually had this rumor confirmed by a sales rep yesterday,

said they would start at low to mid $20,000's as a Scion
