VW Rabbit?

i went by the VW dealer today to take a look at the Rabbit in person, and i must say i was impressed :D

they had a White 4 dr Rabbit with the alloy wheels, sunroof, 5 speed manual, headed seats and a few other things that i forgot on it for under 20k, and i spoke with the sales person and told him that if he can get me into it for at or less then what im paying for my tC then ill do it! :D

(btw i owe 13k for my POS so chances are ill be in the tC for a bit longer)

i know its far from what i said i was gonna get but its the reality haha, no Subarus, or Nissans, im thinkin VW.

someone either tell me to do it or talk me out of it haha.

It's a fun car.
I test drove it and it's pretty solid. When I was shopping round the tC just offered allot more then what the Rabbit came with.

davedavetC Aug 18, 2007 11:00 AM

imo the tC is fun the 1st year or so that you own it, then all the fun just dies instantly. im not happy with my tC anymore and i havent been for about 6-9 months now. im tryin to find somethin else w/o paying more then what im paying now.

A co-worker has an 07 Jetta TDI. When we came back from lunch, the inside door handle fell off as I was pulling it open. He had to open the door for me from the outside. Kind of turned me off of VW's. He's had in the shop many times in the past 5 months. But they always give him a nice Passat as a loaner.

and what makes the rabbit fun? it doesn't have anything the tc doesn't have or couldn't have, but look, the tc didn't become less fun, you just got used to it, you get used to all cars.

i used to love going anywhere with my dad in one of his corvettes, but now that we have had them for half a decade, they are still 300 hp v8 coupes, but now they are merely our means of conveyance.

i mean, there are alot of people who have traded in their tc's for real sports cars like evo's, sti's, z's, and maybe an rsx type s or a civic si, but going from a tc to a rabbit is like, woo! two more doors! yeah!

you wanna keep your tc fun, get some upgrades. suspension, brakes, intake/header/exhaust, pulleys, wheels, tint, stereo whatever.

but just going from a tc to a rabbit because your tc isn't fun, unless your tc is having random mechanical failures beyond it's warranty, the tc iisn't the problem.

you just have this grass is greener on the other side problem.

sorry i have to dissagree with you there.

i think the rabbit is better constructed then the tC, it feels more solid, IT DOESNT RATTLE, its not sloppy like the tC, it feels tighter, and less tankish, i got sick of the tC a while ago but it just really hit me when i realilzed that theres a car that i like that wont cost me a lot more. and im getting the 2dr rabbit not the 4 door (even tho i like both). hte tC got old with me i used to be all about the Scion seen but its just a waste of time to me now. im goin into something that only needs 3 things that would complete the car for me, rims, drop and tint, and id be happy wiht the car. so not to dog on the tC because like i said there where moments that i loved the car to death but i just cant stand being in it for another day :(

ill miss all the cool people i met and ill probably stop by from time to time to see whats new but other that that im out!

i've tried modding the car but i lost interest in it really, nothing i did to the tC put a smile on my face like when i first got it.

there is nothing wrong with my tC besides that its a POS in my eyes, rock chips from driving, annoying rattles, blah blah blah. but i like what the rabbit has to offere and i cant get over how good it looks.

hotbox05 Aug 19, 2007 08:19 PM

I love the new motor and the interior of the gti but my gosh how ugly the mkV's are . I couldn't drive it.

the tC is a pos because of rock chips? all new autmotive finishes on sub 35k cars SUCK compared to paintjobs of just 5-10 years ago.

davedavetC Aug 19, 2007 08:32 PM

its not just rock chips. but when your driving your car and it feels like its falling apart on you would you still want to keep it? :eyebrow:

and i didnt ask your opinion about this.

i think the rabbit is great, and if i dont get it my gf is. but we'll see. i hate the tC and Scion all together. the car sucks and a lot of the people associated with scions are lame, thinks their sh!t dont stick and that they have the sickest car on the road.

hotbox05 Aug 19, 2007 08:50 PM

you said t talk about it or talk you out of it.

my opinion is my try at talking you out of it.

just wait until your vw has severe electrical problems , gotta love brake lamps and turn signals that work sometimes and dont other times , as well as haywire windows!

wait till you meet vw watercooled clubs they are the highest and mightiest car group of people i've ever met.

and your tc is not falling apart . tc's rattle most cars with full length glass roofs do , especially cheaper ones.

did you not test drive the tc?

and in an earlier post you stated you'd miss some of the scion people you've met.

i probably wont keep the VW long enough to experiance any major problems, just like i didnt keep the tC long enough, and even if i do thats what warentys are for.

the tC feels like its falling apart, feels like it was assembled cheaply i cant stand driving it anymore, and yes i test drove the tC a few times, and i drove my friends tC who had it a year before i got mine.

so far after test driving the VW it feels a lot more refined then the tC, nothing that should cause rattles. the interior dash is a lot more refined the the tCs and for a cheap (15k) car it doesnt look, feel or seem cheap at all. it feels very solid and the tC doesnt.

so thank you for your opinion but it holds no weight with me.

and btw there will be a select few scion people that i will miss they know who they are and i will most likely keep in touch with them because they are friends not just people i met through scion.

and theres a 98% chance i wont get caught up in the VW scene because i think "car clubs" and "car scenes" are childish, so i've grown out of that phase and want a car that will be more fun then the tC is. and something that doesnt seem so cheap.

draxcaliber Aug 20, 2007 02:35 AM

seriously sounds like a waste of time. my dad has the 70k dollar porsche cayenne, aka a vw toureg that can go 150 mph, that thing is falling apart, and it is an 03 with only 30 thousand miles on it. he hates driving it because everytime he does, he fines something else wrong with it that it has to go back to the dealership for warranty work. porsche extended his warranty to 8 year/100k, and now he is getting them to buy it back from him because it is such a pos.

now, i'm fairly certain that the vw toureg/porsche cayenne would have far greater build qualtiy than a vw rabbit.

as for your tc being a rattling, get used to it, alot of cars have rattles. you say this vw you test drove didn't, well give it time, it will. and like i've said, when i take deliveries to the service garages at car delerships, the honda dealership has nothing but oil changes and tire rotations, the bmw/porsche/audi/mercedes benz dealership has a service bay full of high end german cars in pieces.

now my philosophy on buying a car is that if your going to be making payments on something, you might as well be paying for something you love. you don't love your tc, so you might as well trade it in for somethng you do like, but i seriously doubt you'll find something the same price or cheaper than the tc that you will seriously like.

davedavetC Aug 20, 2007 10:54 AM

well i appriciate your concern, but i have been looking into the rabbit for a while ,and peeking on vwvortex i have heard nothing but praise for hte rabbit. no rattles, shakes. creaks. problems. nothin. when you search scionlife. all you hear is complaints about rattles things popping, and is this supposed to happen, and stuff like that. so im thinkin about somethin new and it looks more promising then the tC. i appriciate everones concern but its not really convincing me to get something else.

Vlad1024 Aug 20, 2007 05:27 PM

According to Consumer Reports VW is number 27 out of 36 in reliability with most cars below average. Toyota, lexus and scion are all in the top 5

ack154 Aug 20, 2007 05:32 PM

One of my good friends has a new Rabbit (4 dr) and it's really nice. I've ridden in it many times... and must say that if I were to actually get rid of my tC, that would be one of the first things I look at.

Of course, VW does have their reliability issues for some vehicles... but it's still kind of early to tell about this generation, IMO.

Bottom line, I love my tC. But if were to actually consider purchasing something else to replace this, the Rabbit (or GTI?) would be very high on my "to consider" list.

HR_Guy Aug 20, 2007 10:28 PM

You haven't bought it, yet you already have the VW listed in your sig and the tC as a past ride?

davedavetC Aug 21, 2007 02:54 AM

yea so... i should be gettin it soon the dealer is locating it for me :eyebrow: i dont do these types of things on the spot. i get it the way i want.

Matt_Burgess Aug 21, 2007 03:33 AM

VW's suk! Me and my girl test drove 2 2002 bugs and one GTI and all three suked. No ballz, when you hit a bump or a small pot hole it sounded like the struts were gonna come through the body of the car. Her brother got the new 07 Rabbit and thats why she was some what fond of the VW's but she changed her mind real fast. I do have to say the Rabbit is a nice car " for now" but if you plan on any speed performance of the car then you better shop elsewhere! Stock the 2 door five speed runs a 16.2 in the 1/4 mile and my girls brother got a magazine with dyno numbers and mods done with numbers and with a intake, exhaust, and a chip it gained a wopping 14 hp and 12 trq to the wheels.. :loser: Her brother has the exhaust and he paid $600 bucks for it. German crap isn't cheap..lol
But like you said you can tint it wheels and a system and be all set for a year or hopefully two.. But if it was me i would find a SRT-4 used for like 15k as my brother has one and thats one fun car..It's all up too you on what you want but all cars have there share of problems believe me.. I traded my 2004 Saab 93 2.0 turbo for my tC.. To me the saab was crap! Tranny problems, stereo problems, the soft rubber coated knobs that all the rubber started peeling off and so on..
Anyways good luck with the choice you make.. It's really tough to chose a perfect car cause they don't excist..

Ace83 Aug 21, 2007 04:09 AM

I would say dave is gonna be good with VW, as his goal states he wouldnt go aggressive modding and prolly wouldnt stay with it for long.. He tested it and liked it and im not surprised with that... Before I got my tc, i got a 1.8T GTI but then found a better deal with the tc so returned the car after 4 days to get the tc. The ride of vw was a lot better than the tc, i love the feel.. The interior looks more decent and solid. I got my tc wasnt really 100% satisfied because of the ride and interior but then i realized its not such i big deal since ride and interior isnt really bad at all for me to hate it.. now i love my tc and my mods and no regrets getting my tc. But yeah tc has problems that some couldnt stand so they get a car that takes away their unsatisfaction.

davedavetC Aug 21, 2007 10:50 AM

THANK YOU ACE.

damn people think everyone is lookin for a car that lasts them for ever, or is the best performance car for the money, or blah blah blah, i found a car that I think is better then the tC and people are getting all bent out of shape about it.

i appreciate that post Ace.

Im out.
