Alright, so I need a winter car since I don't want to run my scion in the snow. I have three choices right now, two of which really interest me.

The first choice is a 1991 honda civic. The guy wants $400 for it, but he accepted y offer of $250, and I must say, it is pretty banged up, but I would laugh my ___ off all winter while driving this thing. But, I'd have to change the break lines, the head gasket, and the exhaust for it be in running condition.

The second choice is a 1998 volkswagen golf. Now, I love the golf, but there are so many electrical problems with volkswagen that I'm not sure. The guy wants $900, I'm offering him $550-$600. Nothing has to be fixed, it's in running condition. What do you guys think?

i think you should look for a subaru impreza instead. front wheel drive cars struggle in snow. they're also damn near indestructible.

Between those two cars, I'd lean towards the VW. It's much newer and already in a lot better condition. And for $900, that's a steal on an old car that's running fine.

id personally go for the civic, theyre so eeeeaaaaasyyyy to work on its ridiculous, rather then fixing the headgasket you can buy a replacement engine with much less miles for 250-350 and have yourself a reliable car

although if your not too mechanically inclined id just go for the better condition of the two, in your case the VW

What about a Jeep Cherokee ? they are pretty realiable with a 4.0l plus it is 4wd, just a thought.

A Jeep Cheroke Realiable?Since when?Out of the 2 the civic will be cheaper to fix and more Realiable.Vw after 1995 are just a waste of money engine and electrical problems.But as state dthe Fwd sucks really bad in the snow and you slide very easy.Everyone allways says that fwd is best for snow but imo i feel its the worst.I def look in to a older subaru.but then again it will be a bit more pricey for you.

I am in ur same dilemma, not with ur choices but it sucks living in a state that gets snow. I'd say go with the VW cause it's newer like pyro said. I plan on getting a beater and then getting rid of it after winter but just cause I plan on moving to a non snowing state. I hate Nebraska.

I love the civic, and its soo easy to work with, but I seriously need a car that I can buy from a guy and just leave with it and have nothing to do on it. I just learned that I have to change the rack and pinion as well on the civic, and changing those are a pain in the @$$ hahah. I looked at some subaru, and the only thing I got that interested me was an old legacy for $700, but there's a lot of rust..... So I'm going to go check out the golf tonight and I'm probably going to buy it.

go for the VW..unless you want to rebuild a sorry looking old car from the ground up

the honda sounds to me like it was beat..and not very well cared for
