Fuel Starvation

Fuel Starvation
1/4 to 1/8 of a tank we felt fuel starvation on long sweeping right handers.
The car would feel like it died, a short delay of 1-3 seconds with no power, once the car sat level the power would come back on.
Have you guys felt what I am talking about?

Yes, this is a very annoying issue. It happened to me at the track last time I was there, and I had to fill up (for $5.00 a gallon!!??) before my next session.
Has anyone come up with a solution for this?

Had it happen to me as well.
I just run on a nearly full tank. Prevents the starvation, and I can try to convince myself the car, though more heavy, is more "balanced" front-to-back.. lol....

swirl pot. We will perhaps offer it from Ptuning.
yea fuel starvation is common on the tC at about 1/2 tank on a tC set up well for corners. If you arnt getting it until 1/4 to 1/8 tank that means you arnt driving hard enough lol jk.

For autocross I'll start at 3/4 and for track days I'll start with a full tank and fill up about halfway through the day.

I was about to say the same thing. With r-compound tires I've never been able to run with less than 1/2 a tank.

The fuel tank on the tC sits off to the driver's side of the car, but Scion decided to still put te fuel pickup in the middle of the car. This results in the dreaded fuel starvation issue when cornering hard to the right. We noticed this problem last year at the 2007 Summit Point RTA. With r-comps the problem will be worse. We were forced to run no less than 3/4 tank of fuel.
In the off season, we did develop a surge tank/swirl pot to remedy this problem. The fuel system has worked flawlessly and has allowed us to run full tilt even with the low fuel light on. Unfortunately, this set-up will not be just some sort of simple drop-in baffle set-up, but rather a full fuel system upgrade. We are addressing both the fuel starvation issues for the track guys as well as fuel limitations of the factory returnless fuel set-up for the FI guys.
When designing our surge tank, we opted for an all-out swirl pot set-up. This took a little bit of creativity on our part to make everything fit underneath the car. The swirl pot set-up promotes a swirling effect of the fuel entering the round tank. This swirling action helps to de-aerate the fuel and also helps to bring the hot fuel to the top of the tank to be returned to the main tank. This design prevents hot fuel from being continuously recirculated through the fuel rail.
Our fuel system, when produced, will consist of the following:
- Swirl pot (with enough reserve capacity to allow you to drive in right hand circles for a LONG time)
- External high pressure fuel pump with 255 lph capacity (good for about 500+WHP), relay, and wiring.
- Billet aluminum fuel rail
- Adjustable fuel pressure regulator
- All fuel lines and fittings, including lines to and from the main tank.
As far as the NA guys go, we will try and test this on a bone stock tC to see what the final AFRs will be when converting from the factory returnless fuel system to our return style set-up.
We will provide updates on this fuel system as production and such progresses - we may post this reply in the FI section too.....

NurSpec, and anybody else that wants some time at MMP there is a locat event the 8th called Lap Battle and it will be on the outer track, plenty of practice and track time.
Only $150 to enter, not bad at all, race fuel pumps at the track if you need it, etc.
I live around 70 miles from the track but have a nice place, plenty of room, full shop with a lift, full bar, air hockey, big LCD tv, the best PS3 and latest Xbox.
You are all welcome to stay at my place, tweak your cars if needed, run the event, etc......
There is an open track day the 7th as well and I hope to be finished with my current mods to make it to that event as well.
I plan to win my class, only three are offered, FWD, RWD and AWD, I will be down on power up way up on handling though this is going to be an HP layout.
I am serious, you have a place to stay, play, and I am not ___
Come on out to Utah!
