Default GoPro HD for 2010 Season

Anyone else thinking of this?

http://www.goprocamera.com/index.php...2&productid=30

It is on my list and I've already sold my other GoPro camera. Definite benefits for the HD version:

- ridiculously better sound
- it's HD, duh.
- LI-ION battery
- up to 32gb SDHC capacity

Comparison on Engadget:

I've been considering getting one HD and one SD version of this thing. I'd mount the HD for view probably at bumper level and then the SD in the interior either watching over my shoulder so I can see my hands, direction of my head (where I'm looking), and maybe some of the course.

Why'd you sell your other camera?

A two camera setup would be nice - but after running one for a season or so, it would be a PITA for me to remember to start and stop two of them. Would definitely take away some of my focus I think.

So figured I'd be better off putting the money towards the HD version.

saw the thing in person last november.. could've bought it then, but didn't have the need nor the budget.

it's certainly a great investment though. another friend of mine picked it up. works well.

They're $300 from GoPro themselves... but going for about $260-ish on eBay (which is where I got m previous one).

I agree that they might be a bit of a hassle to keep turning on/off for each session, but I tend to do more big-track stuff than auto-x so I typically get 20-30 mins per outing. I could just fire them both up and then let 'em run for the whole session.

Grab some 32gb cards and fill 'em as much as possible. I think I read that 1 minute at 1080p is like 100mb so that's like 1gb per 10 minutes, so a single 30 minute session would fill both cards and I'd be done for the day. Doesn't help for a full day of racing, but would be great for watching a later-in-the-day session when the tires are up to temp, the fuel is at 50%, and the driver is in the zone...

Of course, the HD is ~$260, 2x 32gb cards = ~$160, and an SD camera is ~$160...yea...this might be a little expensive just for some good video

Another thing to keep in mind for the SD version is that it doesn't hold any more than 2 GB. Of course the video is smaller and all, but I don't know what the max capacity would be off hand.

If you're doing more track things, it certainly would be easier to run the two. No on and off and on and off again in a frame of an hour. That would be much better. I will probably look at an 8 GB or 16 GB card though. Should be able to fit a full day on there for what I do.

Oh, that's interesting. I guess I didn't realize the SD only held 2gb, which isn't nearly enough even with the lower resolution. Dang...back to the drawing board.

Well they were supposed to come out with an update for it forever ago to handle a higher capacity (the site even had that listed when I bought my SD one forever ago). I even emailed them about it last year but they didn't have it yet.

You could email them again and see if they still plan to update them though. Might be worth it.

I have the wide GoPro. The video is decent & I can't get decent sound.
One thing I would ask from GoPro is a remote start...
I have mine mounted to my front bumper & that's my favorite point of view. Gives great impression of speed. I've nailed a few cones with the camera & it's fine!

Ya, a remote would be awesome. I would love to see that.

The wide one was the one I just sold. Just a regular one but wide angle. And you're right, the video is not bad - but the audio is just plain awful. From most of the videos I've seen though - the HD version takes care of that.

I'll definitely be throwing up a few videos once I have it.
