My Not So Good Day @ TracksUnlimited Track Day 3/6/10
We had our first track day of the year yesterday and for me it was kind of bittersweet. The weather, and event were simply AWESOME. We had a pretty good showing of Scions and supporters and got a bunch of sessions on the track. For me however the day turned south starting in the first session.
First Session:
Car was running great, pulled really hard. I was definitely off on the tire pressure but no biggie. After the third lap however I noticed smoke in the rear view, so pulled into the pits...turns out the turbo oil return line was rubbing up against the wastegate, and rubbed a hole in it. So Shane and Neil hustled down to auto parts store to get some needed fix it supplies
Third or Fourth Session:
Made the fixes to the oil return line and headed out with Shane as passenger, car again ran great, but we got stuck behind a GTI that just would not wave us by...so we were stuck following...which held Travis and I both up. So few laps later on the front straight hit the gas...and the revs went up...but we did not go...so I looked at Shane and said "I think we just lost the clutch"....if only. So we worked our way back to the pits...and right before we got to the garage we heard some not so good noises, and the car died...and there was a trail of fluid coming from the car somewhere. We pulled in, and by the time we got it on jack stands most of the transmission fluid had leaked out...but from where?? After closer inspection...we saw the starter gear hanging out of the bottom of the transmission. Removed the starter and saw that a piece of the flywheel was also gone, so apparently one of these things had put a hole in the transmission. Needless to say my day was done at the track.

The Damage....
All in all it was not so bad, it looks like all I will need to replace is the bellhousing, clutch, starter and flywheel.
