ATTN: Discount Tire customers.. torque setting on tC lugnuts
 

I was at Discount Tire.. and some of us tC owners know that our wheel lug nut torque setting is 76 ft-lbs. Well Discount Tire, not doing the research, argued with me that the torque is 80 ft-lbs. Their information is INCORRECT about the tC and am here to warn other tC owners who take their car there that they do NOT have the right information..

After showing the guy my owner's manual, then he admits he was wrong.. This was before they tightened my lug nuts. I don't think I'll go back to Discount tire again, because of this attitude, nor that the fact they couldn't figure out how to raise my car, I had to show them where the jack points were, and even then they wanted to argue... I don't think I'll ever go back to Discount Tire, ever again..

But to those of you who do go there, be warned! They do not have the correct information about the tC's lug nut torque specification!!

i agree with the misinformation but it would probly vary from places, but if the mechanic cant even figure out where to lift the car. i wouldnt even let them touch it.

what work did they do to your car ?

they put some new tires on the car.. replaced a bad tire that I had..

i just wanted others to know about the misinformation that Discount Tire has on the tC.. this is if anyone ever does go to one of their stores, to know about the info.. I wished I never went there.. i will never go back

they use torque sticks to put them on and the torque sticks go 60 80 100 120 i think

80 is fine thats the one i use all the time

a torque stick? sorry not that accurate.. and it's been proven that if you dropped a torque stick, the accuracy is way off.. besides, 80 is not 76.. not even close.

People can do what they want, but it's a fact that if you over ighten the lugnuts you will get warped brake discs and distorted wheel lug area.. not a pretty picture..

but i'm here to warn people of what they're doing.. discount tire that is..

and again.. 80 is NOT acceptable.. you can do it to your car but it's not correct..

sorry to hear that the one out here in rancho cucamonga ca. has alway's been very good to me i have purchased about 5 set's of tire's from them they even fix flat's for free even if they where not purchased from them. but then agin lot's of company's have that one crappy shop that give's bad customer service.

a1racer.. you're absolutely right, there are bad ones all over.. i guess this really left a bad feeling with me. too scared to ever go back there..

i am really glad that someone in the tc family is having good results though

most place's you go to use the torque stick probly even the dealer where you purchased the car but most good rim shop's probly have a torque wrench to proporly install your rim's just ask before hand.
