Hi Everyone,
My 2005 xA has been sitting for about 5 years and I'm going to try to either get it running or sell it for scrap. It was running when we parked it, but dis have a bad CV Axle on the passenger side. We were gifted a newer car and parked the xA olin a spot to prevent neighbors from parking in our yard, so it did serve a specific purpose instead of being repaired and used as a backup car.

Going to do the regular emotions: New Oil, Pull Plugs and oil the cylinders, pull pump fuse, and crank a bit to break things free. Then drain the gas and put new fuel in and try to see if it runs. If that's a success I will do the remaining services and decide from there.

Before I begin, is there a drain plug in the xA tank or do I have to pull the seat and siphon gas through the fuel pump access???

I couldn't find any xAs but a few xB pump replacements in service write ups and YouTube videos. Any advice or guidance is greatly appreciated.

New to this Forum after obtaining a sweet 2005 xA with only 250000 miles ;). If not for the automatic trans, would be perfect fit here. but will do as our backup if can figure out an issue that showed up after about three weeks of ownership.
Starts and runs fine. But last two trips of about an hours total each driving with 2-4 stops along the way, the battery signal came on after 2nd or 3rd stop and did not shut off. Checked when home and battery was not charging, but would take a charge. No power from alternator, fusable links check ok. Start again after charging battery up, and was getting a charge from alternator (as per meter), but stopped again next trip....so intermittent and hard to find. Realize the regulator is internal to the alternator, and need to lift engine to remove alternator to bench check. Could be a heat thing?
Don't have a great covered space to work on this, and at moment is not a big priority as finished brakes on my '06 Matrix so have daily driver up and usable. But if anyone has had this issue and there is a common cause that can be addressed prior to going as far as removing alternator, please let me know. If we do need to remove alternator, would most likely get a working repacement and use that.
Appreciate input, and thanks for being here.

No start after wash

So I washed my wife's engine bay and after letting the car sit for a couple hours the first start was rough. It started but it was definately not running on all cylinders. It then completely died after a few minutes. Upon attempting to start again the crank was completely smooth so it seemed like it had no spark. It does not throw a code.

So far I have diagnosed the following and still run into the same issue except after the smooth crank it now cranks normally. I attempted to start with the crank sensor disconnected and it started but backfired after a few seconds(I have learned not to do this now). During this few seconds the car sounded normal.

Crank position sensor and cam sensor looks ok on multimeter and oscilloscope. Changed these both to make sure it was not a false reading. Electrical cleaner and air to the connectors.

Coil packs were mixed between some duralast and toyota genuine and resistance readings were inconsistent between them all. Changed all 4 to brand new toyota oem. Electrical cleaner and air to the connectors.

Used a test light to confirm spark while cranking on all cylinders. One spark per cycle it is what I see.

Confirmed mechanical timing did not jump by setting to TDC and removing valve cover.

Confirmed MAF working properly. Shows reading on a autel ap200. Disconnected and tried to start. Electrical cleaner and air duster.

Confirmed vvt clicks and resistance seems normal.

Bought another ecu from a junkyard same model. This vehicle does not have an immobilizer so any base ecu should work. Same exact symptoms.

Tested that injectors click when car gets put in on position and cranking. Multiple clicks.

Tested fuel pump by removing a hose at the tank and checking for pressure while cranking. Fuel pushes out of the fuel tank(i did not have a pressure tester)

Every connector i have found has been cleaned and dried.

Grounds appear to be ok, or at least any grounding between sensors and ecu i have test is ok.

There might be some steps im missing but this is what is coming to me off the top of my head. I have ben trying to diagnose on my days off for a month and any additional help or ideas is appreciated.

Thank you!
