07 tC oil change

Hi, I've searched about the oil change for over 1 hour, but as I see more threads

about it, I got more confused. I don't wanna go to dealer to have oil changed b/c I

don't want them to mess up my car (I've read some threads about having problems

with them). So I will change it by myself, but Thing is I saw some people say go with

normal oil for first 10k and then swithch to synthetic, but some people say use

synthetic oil since the first oil change. I'm not sure if they don't even matter. How did

you guys do??? I wanna hear some advices.

And is it true that once you use the synthetic oil you should use the synthetic now

on, you can't go back to normal one that will cause something bad.

I have 07 tC with 2500miles, which type of oil should I use? 0w-20 5w-20 0w-30

5w-30??

Sorry to post this I know there are lots of threads about this but I couldn't find

answers. Please help me!!!

5w-30.. i would suggest going regular until you get some mods or something, otherwise its a waster imho

'06 and above use 5w20 as the standard.

the tsb bulletion was put out jan of this year.

0w20 can be used as well for even better fuel economy during very cold winter seasons.

i usually hear most owners use their 3 free oil changes before switching over to synthetic.. that's what i did.

but yea.. i do trust my dealership very much so, but other than that and after that... i've been doing it on my own as well as any repairs.

Thanks guys!!! I really appreciate your helps
I live in CA where the weather isn't too cold in winter but hot in summer. I think I might go with normal 5w20 for my first change and from second I will go with synthetic b/c I'm gonna order CAI and Axle-back (not a big mod, I know)
Thanks again, and anyone who wanna share your ideas? Please, go ahead :)

just a quick question, the owner's manual says to put in 3.8Q for an oil change. Would it hurt to put in a full 4Q? This would include oil filter change as well. Thanks!

TheQuietThings 10-20-2006 11:27 PM

shouldnt hurt at all
i put 4 QTs in my tC and havent had any problems

hmm... I have two years of free "oil changes and tire rotations" in addition to my three free ones...

I wonder if it would do any good to switch after that... or if I should even take the dealer offer of said free maintenance

I'm also at like 1500 miles and not sure if I should change my oil since my dealer only has me scheduled at 5k (of course). I just keep hearing about some seal that requires a special tool to take the oil filter off for the first oil change... meh

CuRiOuSfIsH 10-21-2006 02:03 AM

thanks for the reply. 4Q it is!
DOnt know if there is a special seal, but the 1st time a filter is changed, it's usually a pain to take off. I changed the oil myself right after break-in period. I may or may not go in for my complimentary dealer changes.

Holy thread revival!!!

Question I have is that does disconnecting your battery reset the maintenance light? I know how to manually reset it but the thing is that I could of swore I did my oil change like 4K miles ago but the light hasn't come on yet and I did disconnect my battery a few times this past month to install some things.

SquallLHeart 05-03-2011 06:48 PM

nope. it goes off the odometer reading, which is stored in flash memory.. so disconnecting the battery won't affect it.
