Automatic Transmission Fluid...Royal Purple?

Anybody know if Royal Purple's ATF can be used in the tC's automatic transmission?

Royal Purple's website says their ATF should only be used with transmissions that use a "Ford Mercon/GM Dexron-III type fluid."

Thanks

Yes, it would be compatable.
I switched to the Amsoil which specifically lists the Toyota for compatability.

So what is the proper way to flush the old stuff out when changing to this? I know taking it in for a flush at a shope where they use a machine is a very bad idea so does anyone have a good method?

The following ould be the cheapest way and you can do it yourself.
Drain the fluid (there is a drainplug so don't remove the pan)
It takes 2 quarts to bring up to proper level. Run for a couple thousand miles and change again.
After that I personally recommend changing every 30 to 40k. I plan on doing the same at each change, in two stages.
The synthetics are about 7 bucks per qt so each change is 14 to 15 dollars. No filter or gasket to contend with, and don't even need a ramp.

AMSoil is awesome
and if u really want to do it right
find a shop that has a machine to exchange the trans fluid
it is expensive, but all the fluid gets replaced and the old fluid does not touch the new fluid
the only problem with the procedure listed above is that you are missing the 5-7 quarts in the torque converter and valve body
the above procedure leaves that 5-7 quarts in there, merely replacing the 2-3 quarts in the pan

fluid exchange is the way......heh heh...fluid exchange...dirty

The quantity of fluid you quote may be true on big US trannys but not on these little ones. If you do a complete teardown the xb/xa trannys hold about 4 qts. If you drain the pan you get 2 out, about 50%. If you take the pan off and remove the valve body you get a little over 3 out. Like I said, the cheapest way to do it is 2 qts now and 2 qts later. Sure, there will be a small percentage of the origional stuff left, but they are 100% compatible. When you change again in 30 to 40k, you will get even more of the old stuff and be approaching over 95% new stuff. In the meantime you will still have spent less than what the folks with the fancy pumps will charge you the first time.
My humble opinion only :P

OK, I made a mistake due to my advanced age and senility!!
When you drain the fluid from the pan exactly 3 quarts will come out, not 2 as I posted above. So, when you do a drain and refill you are removing 70 to 80 % of the fluid.
I just changed mine again and discovered my mistake. I had two qts on hand and oops! Had to get the other car to go get another qt.

guess I was thinkin about my Tacoma's tranny
we should probably stop to mention trans fluid coolers as well
very easy to hook up and relieves the radiator a little

Anybody know where the drain plug may be on the TC? Also where is the fill plug or is it through the dipstick? Im looking to try the simple drain & fill. Thanks~

I decided to take my TC to a shop to save some aggravation and my hands from freezing temps here in NJ. I had my Auto TC Transmission Drain & Fill done @ Jiffy Lube with Amsoil Full Synthetic ATF and it took about 3.7 Quarts. I’ve also been running Amsoil 5w-30 engine oil since my second oil change. I will update on any change in MPG as soon as it is apparent. :nails:
