Engine gets really hot, weird smell (like burnt)
Hi, I'm wondering if there is something wrong with my TC 's engine
I drive normally to work, 60mph (rpm about 4000 to 5000). Engine temperature gauge is in the middle, so I don't think the engine is overheated.
The problem is after parking, I feel the hood of my car and it feels really hot. Also the smell coming from the engine smell like some kind of chmeical is burning. It doesn't smell good, other people notice it too.
Is this normal? Also what's a normal rpm while going 60 to 70. I notice that in a G35, the rpm is about 3000 only.

yeah, either your tachometer is off, your speedometer is off or you need to shift into 5th gear.
check and see if there is something leaking or resting on the exhaust manifold that is heating up/melting. see if it is leaking coolant, or

Good Morning!
Like many of the above posters have suggested, I would bring your vehicle to your local dealer to have it inspected as a precaution. The dealer could inspect your vehicle with their Techstream and check the values in your ECM to make sure the telemetry is correct. If there's any semblence of a problem, they'll find it.

A similar problem happened to me,. I had 22k miles on my box and it started to smell immediately after the car started. I took it to a friend and he noted there was a plastic bag stuck and burnt on the catalyst. Figures.
Take a look under your car first if you can.

Yea as posted above you should not be that high rpm wise, on my auto i cruise below 3k all the way up to 75, its not till i break 80 till it gets over 3k. One thing is to make sure youre in drive and not 3rd, this would limit the tranny to 3rd ghear which would put you around 4k at 60-65 mph Also one thing you could try is an ecu reset, just d/c the positive batt terminal for 10 min. The ecu is designed to learn driving patterns and adjust accordingly and being a computer it is possible for something to get off and a reset would fix that. Once you reset it, it will take a little while to relearn the patterns although one way to get this achieved quickly is to make a few wot runs in it, although if something was wrong with the tranny, this could make things worse (pushing the car hard), so if its still in warranty id recommend taking it back to the dealership, esp if the burning smell persists.
