Default Fuel gauge incorrect?

i just got my xa last week and it had a full tank of gas. after about 275 miles, the gauge indicated that i had only 1/5th of a tank remaining, but no warning light came on. so i went to fill it up – a little puzzled that it would need a refill so soon. the car only needed about 7.5 gallons, indicating to me that it was really at 2/5th’s. is this normal? i have read that the warning lights are very conservative, is the gauge just as conservative?

Don't know about yours, but in my xB, the idiot light come on right around 9.5 gallons used. The tanks specs are 11.9 gals for both the xA and xB.

I wonder why they give you over two gallons of gas, that's more that 60 miles for me.

You get about 1.5 to 2.5 gallons just in case you're on a road trip and you're in the boonies!

US Highway 50 in Nevada:

From Fallon to the Utah border is about 300 miles. Outside of Fallon, Austin, Eureka, and Ely there are _no_ services. In fact, there are no buildings, sizable trees, or other signs of habitation. There is a lot of sagebrush. Speed limit is 70 or 75, but most people tend to interpret this loosely.

You drive straight across a valley, climb up to a mountain pass, then come out to a vista of another empty valley with the highway going straight across it. Repeat several times!

You'll come to the Reese River, but most likely it will be narrow enough to jump across easily.

Your cellphone may or may not work depending upon where you are.

However, if you like scenic deserts, this is a must-drive road.

Highway 50 is where I became a member of the "101 club" last year. I did it on a motorcyle on a very nice day. What a great road. Nothing you would want to do all that often.
For those who don't know, the 101 club is when you travel at least 100 miles in one hours time.
