How many quarts of fluid is in a tC tranny?
 

in total? and while draining n refilling how many quart drains out?

did you check your owner's manual?

1st gen xb is 2.5 qts

Manual is 3, auto is 3 or 4...might be 3 1/2.

I believe its 12 in total and if you do a drain and fill you will drain about 3.5 qts.

Yeah buy 4 quarts of Toyota Type T-IV from the dealer.

Only 4 quarts!! I knew it!!!

My dealer charged me freakin' $99.00s for freakin' 17 quarts; last December! Now I know I got ripped off :flame: ... Now I feel odd shifting and my friends are offering to do the flush for me. Cause they told me to do a flush before determine if I do have trans problem. So I went back to the dealer trying to buy the amount stated in the manual WITH the manual in my hand. Once again, they were trying to sell me 17 quarts! I remember saying "Well, the maunal states "this number?" I didn't buy any quarts cause I knew something was odd.

But damn, did I ever get screwed over...I should go back and put them on the spot. :flame: I'm so glad my buddies are showing me how to do simple things like flushes.

You know what I think is interesting?

The words on transmission fluid stick; "In normal driving conditions. No need to flush transmission fluid..."

^well you know dealers charge alot of labor but still 17 quarts is a rip off and 17 quarts can't even fill up both the tranny nor the motor because that is ALOT. just leave it and have your friend flush it and put in new fluid, there is a DYI for the manual and auto, i'll post up both links when i get home in abit so the rest of you can find out how to DIY.

They are teaching me how to do the minor work. They said if you know how to change oil; you can flush trans fluid. I've done more oil changes on my car than the stealership done. I think officially busted them on my so called "Synthetic" oil changes. Engine seemed very different...idling rough, poor MPG just like my three free oil changes when they used coventional. Since I've been doing my own; I've been using Mobil 1. Car runs smooth, nice average 30 MPG, and better quick starts.

do you mean flush or drain/fill instead?

When I changed my tranny fluid (5spd) it took 3 and 3/4 of redline MT90.

Just drain it like oil, and take out the reverse sensor plug/bolt and stick your funnel in that hole to refill. Put 3 quarts in, start it and check it while it's running and add accordingly to the dipstick.

^pic I got from google of where that reverse sensor plug is that you can remove to make changing the trans fluid much easier.

Changing out oil and trans is too easy to pay dealers to over charge you. I bought my car and never looked back to the dealer for service what so ever. And never plan to if the car holds up.

I've tried the "search" with the dyi it says 4 quarts but.. it looks like hes just draining it n refilling it. so what is it?

BTW my car is an AUTO.

The DIY is just for drain/refill. If you want a flush you're either going to have to take it to the dealer or find someone with the machine that they use.

yup.. it's about 3.7 for a drain and refill on an auto. might want to just measure what you drain out (get a cheap measuring cup) and then you know what to put back in (new, clean of course)

I just dont get why you people drain and fill your auto transmissions. To me its like someone taking a bath after wrestling in the mud then draining a small amount out and filling the tub back up with clean water. Can't wait to get in that tub.

Someone always seems to argue the flush. Argue the price, argue that yes it to doesn't get 100% of the dirty out, even argue that its not needed, but please don't argue that a drain and fill is better.

well for the auto trans there is a trick.
drain/fill the 3.7qts, then drive around for a week, drain/fill that again. you've removed 80% of the dirty trans fluid without having to flush it. Yeah it is a time consuming idea that I've read about, but.. if you don't trust someone with a flush machine, it's simpler for "peace of mind".
