Default Maintenance Required Already at 5K miles on TC.. What gives?

I saw the light come on, on or around 5k miles on my Scion TC.. I guess i'll take it to the dealer Wednesday morning which is the soonest i can go. but WTF would this light come on sooooo soon? could it be something as simple as the Tire Pressure??But if it was Tire Pressure, wouldnt that Tire Pressure light come on instead of this? What else could it be?

that light comes on as you get closer to 5000 miles and then it stays on... Its letting you know its time for the car to have its oil changed and normal 5000 mile work done... mine started to come on longer and longer at 4800 miles... then at 5000 miles it stayed on..

Read the oil change section in the manual. Its normal and nothing to panic about.

Just think about it, it's not tripped by some sort of pressure sensor or oil tester (lol) but it's tripped solely by miles. If when you got your oil change they didn't reset the light, then of course it will still come on when it was last reset (or in this case, installed)

I thought the same thing when the light started flashing and then stayed on. I took mine to the Toyota dealership and on the list of things they did, it said "Reset Maint Light"

Would of made more sense to label the dash light "oil change". Would save a lot of people from taking trips to the dealership in a panic.

hey be glad that you have that much mileage in between, on a motorcycle you have to change out the oil after about your first 600 miles... but then again you are starting with break in oil

The car has no idea when you changed the oil. If the maintenance light was not reset after your 3000 mile oil change, it just kept on counting. When it hit 5000 miles, it turned on. When you change the oil, reset the system. Read the manual, this is all covered in there.

Not to sound rude or picky, but it does amaze me how many people buy a $20,000 peice of equipment and do not look through the manual. 90% of the questions asked in here are covered in the manual. Not trying to bash.. just some helpful advice.

Not if they read the manual

Because obviously they didn't reset the miles counter for that light.

The light will come on 5000 miles from the last time the light was reset. To reset the light yourself (my Scion dealership forgets it often), hold down the odometer reset button while turning the engine on and hold it for a few seconds until the light goes out. (SEE CRAYONBOX'S WRITEUP BELOW --- IT'S BETTER)
With Scions, regular maintenance is every 5000 miles, not 3750 like some like to tell you.
BTW: RTFM means Read The Friggin' Manual

So instead of me gettin another oil change so soon. Shouldnt i just reset it myself and then when i really change my oil at 6k.. just reset it again?
