We appreciate the opportunity to address your inquiry. No, 5w30 is the recommended oil weight for your 2006 Scion xB as specified in your owners manual. Use of any other weight can void your warranty. Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions or comments. We would be happy to assist you. Ok, so I emailed Scion just to see what they'd say. Here it is...
Subject TSB EG018-06 Discussion Thread Response (Kevin P) 03/19/2007 03:23 PM Thank you for contacting Scion. We do apologize the information you seek is not more readily available for you. The engine oil 5W-20 is the ideal engine oil you would want to use for your 2006 xB, reasons being are for its low-viscosity which make it ideal for the reasons you listed. At this time, we are unaware of any negatives for using this oil and the TSB #EG018-06 was issued to specify to use this engine oil if your engine fell under the engines listed. Please feel free to contact us should you have any further questions or comments. We would be happy to assist you. You may contact us directly at 1-866-70-SCION or by email at Contact Us. Thank you for your interest in Scion. Scion Customer Experience ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Customer 03/18/2007 08:28 AM My questions are about the recommended oil for use in my 2006 Scion xB. I know there is a TSB (EG018-06) from March 29, 2006 which changes the recommended oil in the owner's manual (5w-30) to a lighter weight (5w-20). Is 5w-20 safe to use year round? Are there any negatives to using 5w-20? Is 5w-20 what came in my Scion from the factory? ILSAC GF–4 SAE 5W–20 This oil has been set as the Toyota genuine engine oil, starting in February 2006 for the U.S. This oil is superior in terms of fuel economy, engine protection, and cold starting performance. Engines That Can Use 5W–20 and 0W–20: ILSAC GF–4 SAE 5W–20 AZ series GR series JZ series MZ series NZ series RZ series UZ series VZ series 1ZZ–FE 2TR–FE |

Im curious as to PP's numbers as I made the switch to PP from M1. |
I have oil analysis performed on my xB when I have 20,000 miles on the oil. I change my oil and filters every 25,000 miles. I am using AMSOIL TSO 0W-30. Made the change at 5,000 miles (first oil change). Then changed at 25K and 50K. Now have 62K on car with three great oil analysis reports. I will be glad to share, also.
