Default tire rotation and the tC's wheel locks

i was just wondering... do Scion dealers have all the available patterns of the wheel lock keys? during my servicing i always ask for tire rotation, but then got to thinking - how would the rotate them if they couldn't get them off? just wondering if anyone knew

If they DID rotate them, do you mark them to know? I doubt they have extra keys, the locks are made by mcguard, not toyota, but I guess they could buy extras...?

that means you tires weren't rotated and they simply just lied to you. they can't take your wheels off because they have no key. i'm sure they won't think twice about lying to you if they don't think you know any better.

each set of mcgard locks are suppose to be unique, just like any key and lock set.

what an outrage... beyond just the shadiness, if they did not do the maintenance for tire rotation, there are safety issues to deal with.

i was under the impression that each pattern on the key and lock is unique...if there's a master set than does that means there only a certain amount of patterns available?

How much does the dealership charge you to rotate your tireis??? My dealer told me today that it would cost 14.95. Shouldn't that be covered for a littlr while? I mean I did spend 20K on a new car.

My understanding is that there are a limited number of McGard 'cuts' supplied to Toyota, and that it wouldn't be unusual for a service department to have a 'master set' of all dozen or so required.

Now if you didn't get your McGard's through Scion/Toyota, there may be other cuts they do NOT have...

(That last is speculation...)

Good news! I got the following from Scion:

Thank you for contacting Scion.

We appreciate your inquiry. A key is included with your spare tire equipment. Also the dealers do house wheel lock keys for the Scion approved wheels.
It is through communications such as yours that we become aware of the reactions and expectations of our customers and we appreciate your feedback.

And this was from McGard:

Most authorized Toyota/Scion dealers do have master key sets that would
service Toyota/Scion wheel locks.

Thank you,

Marc Courtney
Customer Service Technician
McGard Inc.

--------------

whew! I ordered my wheel locks through another dealer, but it came in a Scion package, so I assume they were able to use the master key to service my wheels. What a relief!
