Flush not needed. Just change the filter and fluid with Toyota fluid. Every 50K is fine there after. I do mine at 35K just for extra insurance.

No such thing as flushing a manual transmission u would need to do what they call a drain and fill of the transmission which uses gear oil there are no filters involved, toyota rec. doing every 30k it wouldnt hurt to get it done

I'm pretty sure we are talking about AUTO trans.

I was under the impression that we are talking about a 5-speed manual transmission....

i went about 40K before changing my transmission fluid. Even though toyota says to change it at 60K or so, I'd say get it at every 40K. I did it myself recently and my transmission fluid was a VERY dark black. its supposed to be a darkish red.

Agreed, 60K is way too long to wait to change it.

can i buy the transmission fluid at any part store? certain kind? or just go to toyota and have them change the filter and the trans fluid

Jager555 07-13-2008 01:11 AM

yea. you can buy it at any part store. I put in D4ATF for my automatic. i think D6ATF works fine too. if you're going through toyota, its "Toyota Type 4". and you dont have to change a filter or anything, but you need a machine to cycle the transmission fluid through the engine, while it is running. i got mine done because a relative of mine works for another dealership, so i borrowed the machine for an hour. its actually a pretty cool machine too.

Not sure about what the tC require but on the xBs you gotta bite the bullit and buy the Tech IV from Toyota. Anything else that does not specifiacally meet Tech IV specs is gonna F' up the trans. I search high and low and never found an aftermarket replacement for Tech IV. It's like Toyota has a monopoly on the stuff.

As long as you change the fluid regularly (every 40 K or sooner) I would avoid flushing since there is no need. The possiblity of breaking crap loose inside the tranny isn't worth the risk. :nails: I've heard stories
