Question UPDATE: Clutch choices - install problems...please help!

Hey guys, I am on the fence about buying a Stage 1 Competition Clutch for my tC. My other choice was ATC street clutch and ACT XAct flywheel.

I am not planning on throwing any serious mods on my vehicle other than this, just a CAI, cat back exhaust and maybe eventually a header/mid pipe.

I have been looking at the follwing clutch and flywheel (Comp Clutch Stage 1, and Comp Clutch Ultra Light (12lb) Flywheel) for my ride and was wondering if anyone had some feedback that might help me make my decision. I have to wonder why the 6 puck design on this clutch when all other manufacturers use the full disc on their stage 1 designs?

I am going to be making my purchase in a few hours so I hope to get at least a few answers by then. Thanks in advance.

G!

I called Dezod to ask a few questions and they advised me that I really didn't need a Stage 1 clutch with the mods I was planning. I went ahead and bought the OE Replacement clutch and Lightweight Flywheel from Competition Clutch. I will report back later after install / break-in about how I like it.

Both the OE Clutch and Stage 1 from Competition Clutch were on backorder so I decided to get the Stage 1 from Exedy instead (with CC Flywheel)...arrives tomorrow.

Thanks Paul

OK, so I got the tranny off the car and had a lot of trouble getting it off the spline. It seemed like it was stuck or frozen on the spline.

Once I had the new clutch installed and attempted to reinstall the tranny, now the tranny is not wanting to seat all the way against the body of the engine. It's on the spline and I have about a 1/4 to 3/8 inch gap between them. The guide pins are almost perfectly aligned and I have a bolt or 2 started, but I still can't get that thing to seat all the way.

I tried to tighten the larger size top bolts to see if I could walk it on the post, but it's not going on.

I am a bit nervous to get too aggressive with the shimmying and shaking since I had to use a jack stand to support the engine (only one jack). I am going to rent a transmission jack today after work if I can get to the place early enough.

Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can get that thing the rest of the way there?

Well, thanks for all the advice and guidance I figured out on my own that my clutch disc was not centered properly so the tranny and engine would not seat properly.

The alignment tool that was included with the Exedy clutch did not fit properly into my flywheel from Competition Clutch, so I had to eyeball it. The alignment tool had a center pin on the end that was far too narrow for my flywheel so it was basically useless.

As for the clutch...so far I love it...its way nicer than the stock clutch and not too much stiffer on the pedal feel. The pedal is a bit springy right now and I imagine that will change and become less springy as it is broke in.
