Will this work? Trailer wiring kit for Scion xA?
 

I don't know a lot about trailer wiring. I have a 2005 scion xa and a light HF trailer. From what I hear I need a converter for the trailer lights to work correctly.

There are no trailer wiring kits for the Scion xA, but I figured since this is for the xB it would probably work for my 2005 xA. Do you think it will work?

really I just want the cheapest way to connect it. I don't need T-fittings.

Just go to Autozone, Pep Boys, or whatever auto parts store they have where you live and pick up a Hopkins (aka Hoppy) converter. The one I use (in three different cars) is their model number 46255 "Power Taillight Converter". The "Power" part means that it uses power directly from your car's battery to run the trailer's lights instead of taking power from your car's tail light wiring. That makes your trailer lights brighter and eliminates the risk of blowing a fuse or otherwise damaging your tail light electrical system.

Everything you need (other than tools) comes in the package... including scotch-locks to tap into the wiring, the fused wire to run to your battery, and even the trailer light pig-tail that you hang out of the trunk to hook to your trailer.

There is another brand called TowReady. eTrailer.com sells that one, and they have a video on their website showing how to install it. Search their site for item 119176KIT or just 119176 (you want the kit, but they have different videos for each, so that might be helpful to you).

I ended up buying a converter (non-powered) from walmart for $15. Works great. I know if I ever use a trailer with more lights I will need a powered one, but the non-powered version works fine for my trailer.

I know this is an old thread but I just wired my 2006 xA for a small utility trailer. I got the Curt hitch (4 bolt install with some jimmying around the exhaust) and the Curt xB powered converter (p/n 56030). A five minute rewiring of the plugs on the xB converter is needed to match the xA tail light pinout but it works like a charm and snaps right in. I mounted the converter by the right tail light and grounded it on the mount stud. A bit more work but a totally clean install and no damage to the car wires. :relief:
