Default Anyone ever win a Tint fix it ticket in PA??

Well I got pulled over for my tint today 15% had it for 2 yrs now and have 15 days to take it off
Idid some research on the internet and a lot of places say yes its illegal others say no you can get away with it if you fight it. I'm not sure what to do. The cop told me it is illegal but then i read on some site saying getting a citations means I committed a crime which the courts and officer have to proof. then it says being pulled over for tint is listed as a complaint =no crime=no citation and as long as you can see inside thru the tint I'm OK. I understand the cop has a job to do but I was not speeding I was driving behind a Civic that had tinted windows but i assume i get pulled over cause of the way my car looks i stand out. because I'm sure he saw him first.

Any help guys and gals?

I had the same thing happen to me in Carlisle last year. All I needed to do was send in the ticket with a signature from an officer saying it was removed. Luckily my next door neighbor is a cop and signed it for me. Do you have any relatives/friends/etc. who is a cop or knows a cop that would sign it for you? Other than that, I'd say fight it. They usually at least take a portion of the fine away.

Eddie, dont follow that advice. Dont circumvent the law just to keep your window tint on.

Either A) acctually fight it or B) take it off. Dont try to get an officer who is morally comprimised - to do favors for you, it makes it worse for everyone in the end. I would just go with a lighter shade if you needed to keep your tint for some reason.

PA law states 70% of light must be able to pass through, thats pretty high compared to most states. (meaning you cant go as dark).

Sorry you got hit with the ticket - let me know if you want to ride to that show on the 3rd in a little caravan, maybe we can get something together!

^^ gotta agree 100%

I had VERY dark window tint in the past.
Double limo on everything behind driver and passenger
Limo on driver and passenger door
35% on the entire windshield.

Stupid, yes, but it needed it for where i was working.

I'd take the tint off, if you're really that concerned about it, get it redone after everything is smoothed over.
70% VLT (visual light transmission) is basicly factory clear glass. In case you didnt know, tint percentages are based off the VLT. 15% tint lets 15% of light get through the glass.

PS: never got nailed for DARK window tint, got nailed when i had 15%. wtf.

The way I understand it, just about any tint on the front windows is illegal in PA, regardless of percentage. it's up to the officer if they want to write you a ticket or not. However, it's generally accepted that any tint that's 50-70% or there about, is ok and the cops MAY leave you alone. Any darker, and you are pushing your luck. also note that some townships/cities will enforce this more than others. Here in Philly, they may let you get away with 35%, unless the cop is a real jerk.

no offense, but you won't win. any tint is illegal in PA because the law is at 70% and that's what tCs come with stock. any altering of that is illegal.

ftl, sorry. pay it up.

on another note, i never got harassed when i had 35% on my tC when i lived in PA... maybe try that route if you absolutely need tint.

LOL thats an awesome idea... cuz i know in NY, as long as you can flag down a cop in like 2 or 3 days after removing the tint, they will sign something you take to court to have the ticket dismissed... I just wish i had a friend with a Scion too heh

well i was told to have any cop sign it. i talked to a city cop and i was told i could have an inspection mechanic sign it cause i just passed my inspection on tuesday. my mechanic made me take off the front door tint only. i was told it was all illegal he said it was not. he said if i got pulled over fo my rear tint he told me to tel lthe cop to go pound sand

hopefully they will accept that.

lol I got pulled over with my car being tinted 15% all around and 35% front windshield on my way to work Jamison, pa on 263 in Warwick township. The officer said he's going to cut me a break with a fix-it ticket and I ask how much the ticket is which the police officer still would not tell me. Then he goes on about saying why do I want to pay for the ticket when I can remove it. I said I'm from Philly officer and no one down there cares about tint so I'll just take the ticket and be on my way cause once i take it off you just gave me the opportunity to retint my windows that has scratches on them. I waited 5 days where he said the citation will be mailed to my house and then 5 days goes by no ticket and then 10 days goes by no ticket. I was one happy camper.
