Cheap Ipods?

Does anyone here know of any place to get a 60GB ipod for a good price? Seems like everywhere I go it's $400 or more. I really don't feel like forking out that much dough to play all the songs I already have in cd format. I don't need all the crap that comes with the ipod, just the ipod itself and the usb cable for transfering the mp3's.

SciontCya Apr 20, 2006 12:55 AM

Might I suggest getting a smaller iPod then?
I know everyone wants their cake and to eat it too, but nobody has yet offered me a Ferrari for the price of a SCION, so I settled.

Try ebay.

Skeorx13 Apr 20, 2006 12:57 AM

Well I know I've seen auctions end at around $230-$300 on ebay for it, but I'm wondering if anyone is selling the raw ipod for cheap. If I have to I can get the damn USB cable by itself for like $12 somewhere else. Plus I already have 68GB of music and my collection is still growing. So getting a smaller one is not an option.

SciontCya Apr 20, 2006 01:02 AM

Well, if I might again try to steer you in the right direction.
I have about 250GB of music. I can't fit it all on one of my 5 iPods, but I've survived.
BTW, iPods now only come with minimal hardware - it's been a while since Apple included extras like the AC adapter.

That's correct... Gen 4 (click wheel) was the last to include a USB cable, Firewire cable, and AC Adapter. My buddy has a Gen 3 and it came with above as well as a remote and a dock.

Check around on eBay for cheaper ones, but beware! You can easily get scammed on that... also, check Amazon.com. They recently dropped their prices a bit and also if you sign up for their credit card you get an automatic $30 off your first purchase. That's how my brother got one. When the new video iPods came out, Amazon wanted to get rid of their stock and reduced the price to like $229 and then my brother signed up for their credit card got the $30 off and ended up payin $199 + s/h for a 20gig iPod... not a bad deal.

I'd hold out if you can because they are working on a true video iPod with integrated scroll wheel and touch screen. Supposedly the only hold up is the touch screen itself right now and trying to get it economical. If you can hold out a few months you might run into the same situation my brother did.

^^^ Someone reads too many rumor sites :)
J/K - I have a feeling those stories are true which is why I'm waiting to get another iPod for my Macbook Pro - which, BTW, kicks ___!

When you buy an ipod you're also buying an image.

You can always try another company for more size and less cost.

This is definitely true... however you will not find nearly as many peripherals for them as you would an iPod, i.e. car integration...

lalagimp Apr 20, 2006 12:05 PM

well sure, about the car integration, because it's all corporate.. But you know, I've always liked the feeling of a remote in my hand, probably from too much television as a kid- so really, controlling my music at the mp3 player itself while connected on AUX hasn't really been a big deal for me.

:P

I know I am probably going to get flamed at and what not, but I am going to say this anyway.

Try the free sites that are around, I have done the freeipods.com site and recieved a 20GB Ipod, I've also done one for the Nano and got that one also and a shuffle, I just finished a site for a 30GB Video Ipod. These sites really work you just have to know what you are doing and have a lot of friends/family members to actually do it.

Check this site out for more info on these free sites: www.congablast.com/phpbb They have almost every single company listed on there.

They are all congas so that if you sign up under the first person on the conga thenyou get added to the list as soon as you get credit for the offer you do, when you're name comes up, then people will sign up under you till you get all the refs you need to get your ipod. Heres the site again:

www.congablast.com/phpbb

We are always looking for new members so the congas move along faster and everyone gets their free item.

It really works!! I have pics to prove that I got my ipod from freeipods.com

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

owning 200+ gigs of music dosnt mean u need the biggest iPOD to hold it all, or as much as possible. no way could u listen to it all in one day. my point is the i-tunes program is easy to use and create specific playlist. its easy to take 5 min a day to update your iPOD for what u wana hear that day, i mean before iPODs did you drive around with hundreds of cd's in your back seat?

shorberg Apr 20, 2006 01:53 PM

Maybe you need a 500gb laptop and just carry around a P.A. system to listen to it as well. ;)

Desnudate883 Apr 20, 2006 02:01 PM

THERE IS SO SUCH THING AS A CHEAP IPOD

Brent_23M Apr 20, 2006 02:06 PM

^^ did u mean theres "no" such thing, or that there "is such a thing"?

ack154 Apr 20, 2006 02:31 PM

Apple sets the prices and charges a set price to distributors. It's difficult for anyone to even sell it less than $5 or so under MSRP and still make any money. If you find one on eBay that's a LOT cheaper - it's probably used or refurbished.

I have my tC all set up for the ipod, so no other mp3 player will really work off of it. And I hate taking things out back and forth between the car and apt. I'd rather just load all the stuff I frequently listen to and keep it with me. And yes, I do have hundreds of cds in my back seat. I got four binders worth. Two hold about 96, one holds like 256 and another holds over 300. all are filled except the last one. Still haven't burned enough copies of my albums to fill it yet, but I'm positive I have the albums to fill it. So replacing four bigass clunky binders with something the size of a mouse that sits under my stereo head is very appealing to me. I don't give a ____ about the video capabilities, I just want my music. Sadly ipod doesn't sell a cheaper version without video.

Brent_23M Apr 20, 2006 03:36 PM

oh, wow.... thats a sh*t load of music. are all the cd's mp3's? you could put all your absolute favorites on the big iPOD and the rest in maybe one binder of mp3 cd's to concerve room (i forget how much music can go on one cd if there in mp3 form (assuming ur cd has a mp3 decoder) but i know its a lot)

but i guess this dosnt answer ur origonall question.... sorry i dont know where to buy one cheaper, caugh it up like the rest of us poor saps i guess... good luck bro

Skeorx13 Apr 20, 2006 03:54 PM

I already have about 5 or 6 mp3 cd compilations in my visor cd holder. Most I've put in one cd so far is like 87 tracks I think. I have 68+GB of mp3's and I do have some albums I only listen to when I'm in a rare mood, so those I can leave on my computer, but at least 50 GB of music I must have on the ipod. A smaller one is not an option.

Brent_23M Apr 20, 2006 03:57 PM

where do u download from? do you have virus problems if its a file-share website? im askin cuz i just bought a laptop, for one big reason, to download some music ive lost over the years, and to build up a better collection

champagne_supernova Apr 20, 2006 04:05 PM

needing 50GB of music with you at all times is absolutely rediculous. I have a 120Gb external hard drive with about 95 GB of music on it from my ex boyfriend's collection of more than a thousand CDs, and I have a 30GB iPod that has 2000 songs on it. I am looking at an iPod nano to carry around with me to class now and i'm gonna put that in the car.

There is absolutely no reason to put 50GB worth of music on an iPod. It's a pain in the ___ to scroll through, you have to make a jillion and one playlists anyway to make sure you can find anything, and no one drives so long as to actually listen to all that.

Why did you set up your car for an iPod if you didn't have one and don't want to pay for one? That makes no sense.

There was a 60gb model before this current line, by the way, but you'll still pay $350-$400 for a new one since they came with a lot of stuff in the box and were $500 to buy. Also, when you format it, the actual capacity is more like 50GB, not 60. My 30Gb is actually 26GB due to differences in marketing and actual formatting. You won't be able to fill it to max capacity either, the iPod will stop you when it gets within a gig of being full. So you will be able to get max 49GBish on there, and there's still no reason to have that much.

Remind me not to drive near you when you're flipping through 50GB of music on an ipod somewhere. It's bad enough with people on cell phones, never mind trying to find one song in a sea of 10000.
