Double Standard for Sex Crimes?

As many of you have probably already seen in the news, there is yet another story about a female teacher having sex with under-age male students. This time she's 23 and the students were 14 or 15. Oh, by the way, there were at least 5 of them over a period of a few months. The thing I don't understand is the way the press words things and even the way she is being charged. "Ward is being charged with criminal sexual conduct with a minor and six counts of lewd acts on a minor, according to arrest warrants."
Yes, I know that these boys were probably loving it. I realize that they probably thought they hit the jackpot. But if this were a MALE teacher and he had been having sex with five 14 year old girls (even if they were willing), he would be labeled as a child molester and charged with rape. And the press wouldn't be refering to the girls as "the students" but rather the victims. To me, this is a clear double standard.

Indeed. Why is it that when two underage kids are caught doing the dirty, it's always the boy that gets charged, labeled a sex offender, and has to register for life denying the possibilty of any kind of normal life whatsoever.

There's a guy in jail right now, because he got oral from girl while in HS who was willing, and offered it to him. The laws are whack.

I agree, A male teacher in the upstate here was just charged with soliciting a minor and the news was allllll over it. Yet just a few years ago a female teacher was having sex with students and it made the nightly local news one night....and that was the last of it. A Sex Crime is a Sex Crime, regardless of whether a Male or Female commits them..Just my two cents

I would have to agree with you, sir. If a guy even gets suspected of such things their lives get flipped upside down. Then when they are found innocent all they get is, "We are truly sorry." It's definitely a double standard.

mitchelltc1 03-01-2007 03:44 PM

Couldn't agree more. I understand that the laws are there to protect the innocent. But the standard of innocence is very misconstrued.

clayisland485 03-01-2007 03:46 PM

The worst part is...even IF you are found innocent....If you're a teacher or anything, you can kiss your teaching career goodbye, at least around here, all it takes is a rumor or anything and BAM, you're gone

matt_a 03-01-2007 04:00 PM

Yeah...but the part that gets me is that even if they are absolutely 100% guilty, the courts seem to go much easier on a female. Look at that case from a year or so ago with that hot blonde teacher (Debra Lafave). They had her dead to rights and I don't believe she spent any time in jail. If I'm not mistaken, she got house arrest. If that had been a man who had sex with young girls he'd be in a state penn right now...as he should be. And so should she.

ANY contact with an underage child should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law....it doesn't matter if the victim was male or female... a child molester is a child molester....

Exactly.

unless said teacher is a hot female, in which case the boy needs extra credit at minimum.

I still wish my 28 year old 7th grade teacher Ms. Carlson had made some underage contact with me at the time.

i agree that this double standard is not right

teamben158 03-01-2007 04:51 PM

There was a male teacher around here caught having consensual sex with a few female students that were in high school, so at least 15 but I want to say 16, but he is now locked up for 20 years.

Ummm...double standards are everywhere you care to look. It comes as no surprise to me at all.

Im sure some of you still believe we have freedom of speech too!

Care to weigh in on the thread topic instead of trying to change it?

In a word (or two): penetration issues.

Society dictates that a man cannot be raped by a woman. If I guy is "unwilling", vaginal sex is quite impossible.

Do you believe that? I don't. I think it's quite possible to create a physical reaction even though the person may not "want" to do anything. Especially with Viagra!!

I dont know about Viagra, but if some chick dosed me with one, I think I have an hour or so before anything "happens", so there is plenty of time to get away.

As far as physical reactions go, when I am turned on, I am turned on. When I am not, even when moments before I was, I am not.

Speaking of physically, a woman can not (generally) overpower a man. If one outweighed me by a large amount, she might take me, but I know I would still be flacid since those types of girls dont do it for me.

Rape isn't just physical...you do know that. Rape can also be mental. Rape - noun - Abusive or improper treatment; violation.

Of course, just as rape can be homosexual in nature.

But that was not the example given.

Still not exactly on topic. We are talking about adults doing it with willing kids and the bias the courts have in barely fining female teachers for doing the exact same thing male teachers goto jail for 20 years for, not rape.

Rape being a forced sexual activity on a person, and we're talking about the kids being 100% willing. So, as you can see, not the same thing.
