Default The Driver = Alex Roy + Gumball + M5 + Crazy

So I imagine at this point most of you have heard of Alex Roy's trek across the country in 31 hours 4 minutes that was revealed this past October (details and info and such here).

So those of you that might know about that probably also know that Alex wrote a book about it. Well, not just that, but pretty much anything that had possibly led up to that record.

I'm not really a big "book" person. I rarely pick anything up to read... except the internet. But his just seemed like it might interest me a little more. I had bought it this past Saturday and ended up finishing it on Tuesday. I'm not doing any sort of review of it, but just trying to see what people think if they've read it.

I don't think it was the greatest book ever or anything... but it was just something different that was very cool to read about. Almost all of the nights that I was reading it before bed, I would come to a good section that I didn't want to wait for and ended up staying up an hour or two later than I really wanted. I actually felt compelled to keep reading it.

So who else has read it... did you like it? I've read a few reviews that complain that it jumps around a lot - which it does... but the way it was done, I didn't really see that as a negative. But that might be just me...

Oh ya, here's a link to the book on Amazon if you're curious...

Ah. Was he the one that ran the Bently Continental GT last year? I'm a big fan of the Gumball rally.

Ya, he's done a lot of the Gumballs (which you follow in the book) and I think was in the Bentlly last year with some guy named Ross.

That's the other thing I liked about the book. It wasn't just about his cross country "record." It was all of the gumballs and things leading up to that. There was even a story about this past year's Gumball where someone hit and killed a couple in a VW somewhere in Europe and I was like "oh ya! I remember reading that on autoblog." It was one of those things that was inevitable when you consider the type of "racing" and all of that.

Thread revival! And there is a reason...

I had read the book and loved every page of it... Then went through every page on his website www.teampolizei.com, and I own the Team Polizei t shirt.

last weekend I went to the Rolex 24hr @ Daytona...

Saw the polizei racing team in action, and bumped into Alex up in the suite hall on saturday (hes a real cool guy, didnt mind being approached, but then again I didnt hound him, just shook his hand and said that I enjoyed the book and look forward to his next works). Sadly I didnt have my cam with me, but I did get these sunday morning...

I saw the same TRG Team Polizei car at Watkins Glen last year too. He was there being hounded like you mention. I didn't bother saying hi cause he was surrounded. I think that was right after they announced they'd field a car in the Rolex series - but they weren't running it yet - just showed it.

Glad to hear you enjoyed the book though! I was like "Holy old thread bump!"
