Default LG-VX8500 "Chocolate"

So I just got this phone.

My contract finally ended and I'm so happy I can move on from
my crappy **** Motorola.

I didn't get the Music Essentials kit because there has been
one single question of mine I've always wondered the answer
would be before I bought it.

If you upload music onto the phone using the USB,
can you use any of the songs you uploaded as a ring tone?

I've been a Verizon user and an LG worshipper since day 1, and unfortunately, they lock all of their phones from using ringtones from the memory stick/usb/bluetooth download(transfer). The reason? So they can SELL you ringtones!!! DUH!!!!!

That's the only gripe i have against Verizon, other than that,

I have it. I'm still trying to figure out that there's a way to make your own ring tones and upload them on the comp. I'm just being lazy right now, just search google.

yah I want to switch out to a chocolate too. i have a razr under verizon, but if you do a little phone hacking you can enable bluetooth and just transfer songs over w/o paying and use them as your ringtones. Not sure how the chocolate works though. Check out howardforums.com.

I FIGURED IT OUT!

Alright, after searching the net last night, I stumbled upon a way to make
your MP3's ring tones without using a USB device, Bluetooth, or anything
else that you would have to buy to put music on your phone.

All that is needed, is that you'd have to be subscribed to use SMS...
And I'm pretty sure that you guys already would be.

Find the song that you'd like as a ring tone on your computer.
Next, download the program called WavePad.

Install WavePad and continue on to open up the song you'd like as a tone
in the WavePad program. The thing is, you can't put the whole song, since
you'll be sending it as a text. So you can only pick a certain amount of
seconds as the ring tone.

Using Wavepad, figure out the part of the song that you'd like as the tone.
You must highlight (click and drag) that certain part and go up top and click
CUT in WP. Click NEW FILE and leave the sample rate at 96000 MONO.
Go ahead and paste that section you CUT out.

Now, go ahead and SAVE FILE AS and save it as a .MP3. Now a box will
prompt you with settings. Make sure Constant Bitrate is checked and that
the KBPS is set at 96! Now save...

The next step is to check if the tone you want is too big. Go to wherever you
saved the file at, and make sure that the file size is UNDER 350K. Once you've
done that, you're ready to go...

Go to whatever email account you have (I use Gmail) and compose a new
message with the attachment of the tone you just saved. Now send the tone
to xxxxxxxxxx@vzwpix.com. Replace the X's with your ten digit number.

The tone should be sent to your phone and be able to use!

If that doesn't work, make sure you go to VZWpix and
sign up for a free account. This is pretty much a Verizon website
that allows its customers to upload their pictures to the net.

I hope this helps guys!

*EDIT
This does not qualify as IN texting! So don't get too carried away!

Yeah that's true.

But I just posted that up just for us people who try to save
money and don't necessarily need full length songs on our phones.

In the long run, I'll probably go ahead and buy the USB cord and
download BitPim to do so.

But I just got this phone 2 days ago, so this will suffice.
