Obstruction of View ticket

A cop pulled me over in New York and slapped me with an obstruction of view ticket for having a GPS/GPS stand, some parking cards from shows (on the left hand side below my inspection sticker) and a veteran flower on my rear view mirror.

My question is how much would it cost for New York i looked it up. In Jersey there about 54.00 Is it different for New York?
Is this offense any point on my license?
I also heard there's some kind of surcharge in New York?

I did a search on this site and found nothing about this subject =/

i don't know bout on east coast but here in cali its a fix it ticket. $10 court processing fee only.

DMP84 Apr 7, 2009 08:43 PM

I had that ticket in Jersey for an air freshener hanging off my rearview mirror on the parkway... $54... : / last time my car smelled fresh lol. Nothing else associated with it just the fine.

Crazy, isn't it? We get a fix-it for that while they get a real fine, yet they get turbos while ours get impounded. So many trade-offs regardless of where one lives.

tc-guy Apr 7, 2009 09:23 PM

yea ill take being able to turbo over a $54 fine anyday.

Drizz-OH Apr 7, 2009 09:32 PM

That's so ___. Seriously cops need to start pulling people for real reasons.

ack154 Apr 7, 2009 09:43 PM

Usually if they're giving you tickets for crap like that, they were basically profiling your for something else... hoping to get you on something bigger. Could be anything... but that's probably what was happening. And then when he realized he didn't have anything, figured he might as well ticket you for what he could.

And I thought "Killifornia" was bad with some of their laws. :relief: GL

DMP84 Apr 7, 2009 09:45 PM

Yea I know what you mean, 10 years ago we were almost ticketed for playing roller hockey in the park. He said we were disrupting people... so all right let's go smoke crack on the corner then if we can't even hang out at the park... society is going down the tubes lol

mengsta Apr 7, 2009 09:51 PM

Dude in a way you are right, If you take kids off the parks for lame reasons, they find other crap to do, sometimes the wrong stuff.

And a ticket for the air freshener off the rear view mirror? You must be kidding.

People up here are always putting stuff in the car that obstructs view. Usually they are profiling you and hoping to catch you high or some other random worse offense. He was probably like "damn what a waste of time"

well.. NY was the first state to have hands-free laws for the longest time until Cali jumped on the bandwagon..

RCZDesigns Apr 7, 2009 10:16 PM

You think you got it back for stupid small tickets like that, AZ has become the big brother state and now 50% of the places you go have cameras profiling your every move.

I got a ticket in the mail yesterday for running a red light, and it shows me at the intersection waiting to turn on red.

Now I have to either A: take time out of my work day in a month to fight it, B: pay the $225, or C: ignore it and see what happens.

It's a toss up between C and C.

Most coppers here in Cali won't 'profile' you for something hanging off your rear view mirror though.
(Unless it's something obnoxiously large blocking your view) . I'm all for the hands-free law. In my
city the cops don't enforce it enough. I still see LOTS of people talking/texting on their phones.

Ack has it right. They were probably hoping to give you a ticket for something else, when they couldn't find anything, he decided to not go home empty handed.

In a time where police officers need to prove that they are needed (due to the recession, a lot of cuts are being made) they need to increase their ticket quota. I wouldn't be surprised to see more people ticketed for minor infractions.

O5_TRD_tC Apr 7, 2009 11:13 PM

I got pulled over for the same reason. I had a SMALL Buddha (no larger than 1"x.75") on my RVM and the cop asked me to take it off.

I dont see cops pulling people over with fuzzy dice. :tap:

SW_08 Apr 7, 2009 11:16 PM

cop was def bored....
LAME!!
