I just got my DRL setup today... and am going to be putting it in this weekend probably on the Sunday. I will take some pics.

So far I have a pic of what I got today.

The install would be for this DRL-1 modual only as other ones may be different... but im going to give some helpful pics and some small notes along the way.


The Vehicle is not yet registerd under me as I need to get this DRL installed before it will be stamped into compliance with our regulations.


I cant wait to get this thing in my Driveway and plated under my name.

DRL-1 should not be used on your XB!! .... you need to some how find a supplyer of a Ground Trigger DRL system. The XB has a constant voltage to the headlights, and is turned on and off by a switched ground.

I got around this just for the inspection by connecting a relay that would trip the ground for the headlights... 20min after the inspection I took everyhting off and fixed it all back up nice nice.

I am going to go about DRL later on and a different way... atleast I passed inspection and thats all I care about .

Crappy Tire just ran a wire from my ebrake...i yanked the mother right off as soon as it was in my name...lol!

My wife called me at work today.... a tech from one of the local toyota dealerships walked in and asked who had the XB, because they have one at the shop right now and need to figure out how to setup the DRL. too funny... so I talked to the guy on the phone to explain what I did.....

I had my DRL set up recently (twice).

First time:

Parking (amber) lights on all the time.
Instrument lights on all the time.
Headlights off until I turn them on.

I took it back because I was afraid of prematurely burning out my instrument lights.

Second time:

Headlights are on all the time - no intensity difference if I turn lights on or off.
Parking lights and instrument lights off until I turn on at stalk.
Applying hand brakes does not turn headlights off (as with my Mazda).

Is this the right way?

within the next couple weeks, i'll have to get all the CDN modifications done to my car, including DRL. should i avoid canadian tire and hit up a toyota dealership instead? (as i am completely incapable of installing it myself...)

i ended up going to the local Toyota Dealership to install the DRL as they quoted me the same price as Canadian Tire ($230.00 CAD + tax).

when i turn on the car, the full headlights come on.
Pos. #2 on the stalk still turns on the parking and other misc. lights but of course, they supplement the headlights which are already on.
Pos. #3 lights up the instrument panel inside.

originally i was told that the DRL would be less intense (more dim) than the regular headlights but no, same intensity.

Do you know how they disabled set-up #1. It's the way my car has been set-up and I hate it.

My DRL's on my 92 Celica are setup like this.

Car On with Hand brake up = No lights/No cluster
Car On With Hand brake down = Fog Lights/No Cluster
Car On / no hnd brake / Running light selectd = Fog Lights/cluster on
Car on/ no hnd brake/ Headlights selected = Fog Lights Off/ Head Lights ON, Cluster Lights ON.
Car On, No Hnd brake/ Headlights selected/ Fog lights selected = Everything On, Cluster On.


My 95 Civic coupe DRL setup.

Car on Hnd brake up = No lights
Car on Hnd brake down = headlights at 60%
Car on/ no hnd brake/ running lights selected = Same as above
Car on/ no hnd brake/ Headlights selected = Cluster ON Headlights at Full power.

I had the dealer install the DLR on my xB and the dash lights and front signal lights are on all the time and headlights only when when I turn them on. Insured!!

I Just got mine back from Crappy tire with the Head lights on all the time and then turn the park and instrument light on when i need them. this way actually isn't the way to go. i find it a pain in the a$$ due to the fact people drive around a night with just their head lights on (because they can see) but no tail lights. it should be wired the other way so that park lights are always on and then you turn on the head lights. this way all lights are on at night.

But these are just my thoughts.

I don't think i will be able to as stated on Van Scion Club, but i definately want to check how yours is wired up. so i may make some alterations. just wish we would have a Indian summer or something.

could the DRL module from a 04-05 echo HB (VITZ) be used on XB 1st gen?
the DRL on my 04 echo HB works
#1 eng on park brake on ---- nothing lights
#2 eng on park off light SW off ---- headlights on lowbeam %80 power no dash no mark
#3 eng on park off light SW #1 ---- headlights on lowbeam %80 power dash + markers on
#4 eng on park off light SW #2 ---- headlights on at full power

Good thing I found this thread before having my DRL's put on. And the appointment's tomorrow too!
Anything I should tell the access. place to keep an eye out for when install the lights?
