Default Repairs for Vixen

So, I just got off the phone with Barrnett's Body shop.

I have nothing against these guys. Really, I don't. However comma, for those of you who know me and have seen me around Vix know that I'm extremely protective of her.

Here's the story. Vix got a hit and run at some point. Not sure when, not sure where. Now then, I had my folks take her around to various body shops and get estimates. Barrnett's had the best quote, and, to my understanding, a good reputation for their work. So, Vix was delivered to them.

Now, Vixen's front and rear bumpers both had minor damage, the rear being the worst of the two.

Here's the damage.

The body shop claims that they didn't see the damage to the rear bumper itself...only the lower skirt. They repaired the lower skirt and the front bumper but failed to even realize that the rear bumper had damage. It's difficult coordinating things from 7000 miles. It really is. They say that since it wasn't on the original estament that they can't fix it and have to write a new one. Okay. I'll play. How much? Nearly $300 to remove and refinish the bumper.

Um...What?

No.

No chance in hell. One, I only have two stripes..I can't afford that right now. Two, how did you miss the mark on the bumper? How did your body guy miss the mark on the bumper? How was it not noticed until yesterday afternoon? I mean really.

I'm willing to work with people if they own up to making a mistake. Really. I am. I called the guy up myself (mind you, it's nearly 11 at night here and I'm dog tired) and spoke with him. I like having all sides to the story. I got him to agree to work on the estimate and we'll see because frankly, I think it's a load of tosh and I can't afford it. I'm not the type of person to put my car in the shop and only get it half fixed. Not so much.

All in all, counting both bumpers and the skirts, the estimate went from around $415 to $715 over one bumper. Qwhat?

Forgive me if I seem a bit bitter but this is nuts. We'll see how this rework of the estimate goes. I'm not sure if these guys will ever lay hands on my car again or not. All I ever really ask for is that people own up to your mistakes. That's it. Own up. There's more to this story than I'm going to put down for now because, like I said, it's nearly midnight for me and I do still have to work in the morning.

That is just so wrong....they were supposed to do a complete estimate...if they missed a $300 repair, their estimate should have been $300 less than everyone....You didn't say, but I bet they weren't. They should eat it, they made the mistake.

No. They refuse to eat it. Also, yes it gets better, they forgot to put the paint time on the estimate for the rear skirts. I'm done with them. They're charging me for that paint and they said they can buff out the damage on the rear bumper.

I guarantee they will never have this box back in their bay again. I'm actually quite concerned that I'll have to have repairs done by my sponsor body shop once I get Vix back to SC.

They were going to paint my new parts, the strut tower bar and the front and rear sways, for about $300. Too steep. But. I asked how much for install and it was over $800 for those parts and the lowering springs.

Mom is picking Vix up tomorrow and taking her home with all my uninstalled and unpainted parts in tow.

Flowood Mississippi. Right next to the movie theater at Hwy 25 and Airport Rd.

Just got off the phone with them. They "tried" buffing the damage to the bumper...but it's embedded. It was termed "quite noticeable" ...and yet you failed to notice it when she came in for the original estimate??

Does that mean it's gotten worse?

Oh, and he kept saying that someone had tried touchup paint on the scratch. I said that no one did. He's saying that they did (basically, he's trying to call me out again) or at least it appears as such because there's blue paint inside the scratch. I'm sorry but no. You have just officially made me torqued.

Could it possibly be that the paint was pushed into the scratch by the other vehicle? How about your buffer? "Oh I might not have noticed the scratch in the first place because there was blue paint in it."

Then that paint is frickin magic. GAH! I'm just aggrivated. I'm sending my mom for the car. I'm done. I'm already working something out with my sponsor back in South Carolina about repairing the damage that these _______s "overlooked".

Grr....I need to calm down.

He said he couldn't fix it if they didn't get paid for it. Sure. I agree. I'm not asking for a freebe. I'm asking you to step up and quit giving me excuses for why my car is STILL not fixed after being in your shop. The only reason she went into maintenance was to fix that back bumper.

Oh I've already been planning a "Break a Foot Off Ceremony".

I'm on the phone with my mom. She says that the front bumper and the rear skirts look good. Just you can see where they tried to buff out the other damage. I don't know how it looks yet. She's going to send me pictures.

There's the spot after they tried to buff it.

That's for the lower skirt.

And the front bumper. Which I never really had pics of the minor damage that was on it.

All in all, the paint seems to match and looks smooth enough. I just wish they'd owned up a bit better when dealing with her back bumper. I'm still waiting on word back from my sponsor. He'll have to fix the rest I guess. My stepdad is going to paint and install Vixen's other parts. He's got the equipment. We'll see how that goes.
