Christmas lights or mini UFO? (lots of pics)

Here's an update on what I've been doing lately. Some of it you guys have seen, some is new. My car is ridiculously dirty and some of the pics aren't too great, so don't pick on me for that.

Roady XT mounted next to speedo. I hardwired the power to the back of the cig. lighter and the antenna is on the right rear roof. I'm using the built-in FM and it doesn't sound too bad with the antenna back there by the FM antenna.

Billet AC vents.

Custom CNC-machined billet grille with CAMOBOX lettering cutout and billet grilles in foglight holes.

New fancy-looking switches, 3-position double lighted. Big light is wired to headlight switch through the rheostat so it dims like the dash lights. Small light comes on when the switch is turned on. There are two on positions, first is only powered when the doors are open, the other is always powered. I used a relay to connect to the dome light output, but it didn't work. While troubleshooting I slipped with my meter leads and fried the door lock control relay, so I had to do some creative wiring to get the dome light to work with the doors. Turns out I bought 24V relays instead of 12V  and the door lock control relay costs $425.

First switch controls interior cathodes, cupholder LED's, and AC vent LED's. Here you can see the switch with headlights on (green square) and interior lighting on (red bar). I've still got to swap those switch LED's to true green.

The second switch controls all the outside lighting. Here are the headlight LED's and and another grille shot.

You can see the 3 LED's I have behind the grilles in the fog light area and the engine bay cathodes shining through the grille.

Shot with hood open, those Randode cathodes are really bright.

I pulled into my carport diagonally to work, and my car had been making a funny rattling sound for a couple days right when it started. I figured this would be a good time to listen closely to the sound while I backed out.

Good news: My muffler clamp had come loose, causing the noise.
Bad news: I didn't watch where I was going.

It's about $1100 and Chad gets to smoke my right rear taillight for the THIRD time.

I'd say it's probably one of the most expensive lighting mods ever, $1500 PLUS the cost of the lights.

Nice job my man!!

10,000 mcd LED's stuck through the little square hole in the headlight housing. $2.49 at Fry's electronics, but you have to wire in a resistor.

Looks kick a$$! That sucks about the damage. Well, that is what you pay for insurance for. It is called an accident for a reason.

Sucks about the body damage tho  ..

dudehitt 01-02-2007 12:55 PM

Thanks for the complements everyone. I'm a big fan of naked metal, so the solid grille and Chris's ideas for the leftover pieces of my ebay grille set are perfect.

I'm working on something else I don't think I've ever seen on a local box, but you'll have to wait because it's going in to the body shop this week. :lalala: :lalala:

PHXLOCO 01-03-2007 10:06 PM
