Default Need help on where to go for breaks

hey all...my breaks are squeeking on my 08 xb..got 37k on it..i called break masters and they guy seemed to try to b.s. me..told me i could do the 100 bucks for all 4 breaks..i get down there he says those wont work and i need ceramic..yet i read online ceramic cost more up front..can crack..and mess up your rotors..i called avondale scion ( but i usually go to camelback) and a tech there confirmed pretty much what i read online..ceramic is more up front and in the long run..but last a little longer..so im looking for some help on what to do...the tech quoted me 224 at avondale for all the work and 2 new breaks..that good? can i get same quality work elsewhere for less? just looking on feed back before i drop that kinda coinage..thanks for the help in advance!

lol thanks for the vote of confidence...but i cant seem to paint my house the way id like to...let alone mess with the most important thing on my car..ive never touched anything like that..so id rather have a pro who does it all the time..i just hate being lied to..cause although i may not know how to do it myself...i do know how to look up info..and that guy was just trying to milk me...im a sales man to..so i can pick up B.S pretty well lol..just not sure if the dealership price is fair..i hear they tend to be higher..but at least i know their techs do it all the time..and on my type of car..anyone else know of someone where local that would be cheaper?

Whatever you do, don't get ceramic. Unless you are running that thing at the track and those brakes are under constant stress, ceramic pads aren't going to get near hot enough to stop you properly. The middle of the road is always the best for daily driving. The organic pads that come on the scions are good for noise suppression, but are prone to brake fade(less effective at stopping when under constant heat, ie. stop and go traffic). Semi-metallic are the middle of the road and offer great benefits like less brake fade and better stopping power. The only problem with semi-metallic is that they tend to squeak under light braking, not so much under heavy braking. Plus, on a scale from 1-to-5 in brake rotor wear with 1 being the least amount:

Organic - 1
Semi-metallic - 3
Ceramic - 5

Hope this helps.

Try looking for the EBC brake pads. They have great stopping power and don't dust the wheels as much. The 'green stuff' pads are great.
