Default Scion owner steals handicap parking!

A woman emailed me earlier this afternoon...

It is so unfortunate that the reason I looked up this site is because I saw A Scion Poker Run sticker on a vehicle that was parked in a handicapped spot. This was on Dec.30th at around 2:20pm outside Harkins Theatres located at the Chandler Fashion Square. As a handicapped person myself I was somewhat surprised to see a very able bodied young couple jump into their vehicle with the handicapped plaque proudly hanging from the mirror.....as I mouthed the words \"you should be ashamed of yourselves\" the young woman actually appeared to be sorry while the young man gave me a middle fingered wave and off they flew in their scion...............not typical of your typical customers I hope.........but having the poker run sticker did identify their taste in vehicles which I will not soon forget.
Shame on you!

Okay! While I admit I was at that particular mall today and it is true things have been known to fly out of my sunroof (fingers, cups, bottles of milk) that wasn't me! So I'm very offended by those of you who messaged me with accusations. *cough*Troy*cough*

Seriously though, that is pretty sad and I'm embarrassed for whoever that was. Randy should revoke the sticker he made.

Now isn't this special -- If this said what model or what color things could be
narrowed down. This is JUST WRONG for someone in our community to be that
inconsiderate. Way to go who ever you are and YOU do know who you are. If and
I use the term loosely are "handicapped" have common courtesy to have
spoken to this women not FLIP her off. Shame on you is right -- I hope to god I
don't know you cause I think I'd punch you the F**k OUT!!!! Is this what were
all about? If so -- I'll sell ours and buy something else !!!

How do we know this peron might not have a legitimate reason for the handicap plaque. You dont have to be crippled to have a handicap sticker. I am just sayng that maybe they have a good reason.

If not. I think what this person did was very wrong and totally uncalled for two reasons Parking in a handicapped spot is not cool but to flip someone off for doing what is wrong in the first place.

I am embarrased that it was someone from our group not to mention from an event that I put together.

The person that did this shoudl step forward and contact Darren so they can send this person an apology. We as a group dont need to know who you are, but that is the least you could do. Otherwwise people here are gonna have a bad taste in their mouths over this.

Next, I want to ask Moonray if he had a bad day or what. I know it as wrong, but damn man drink a Coors or something and chill a bit.

I saw that black, perhaps FM tC today at Chandler Fashion Square. For some reason I didn't look close enough to see that it was parked in a disabled spot. Had I known this was the case, I would have personally rearranged the owner's face when he emerged. My mother is disabled and she always has to fight the inconsiderate morons that continually park in reserved spots. Whoever you are, I hope you're reading this and I hope to see YOU at the next meet!

Default just my two cents!!! not worth much more than that....

obviously, the person had a reason to park there or else they would not have had the sticker. Just because she could not notice the reason does not mean that she needed to be rude to them...i do not know who it was and i know they should not have used that gesture but i can hardly blame them with the way some people are when they get into other peoples business. that is just my opinion though....she needs to realize that they probably have a reason to park there.

Simply because this individual displayed a disabled placard on his windshield does NOT mean that he did so permissibly and does not mean that he was disabled. According to ADOT, an applicant for a disabled plate/placard "must have one or more of the following conditions: unable to walk 200 feet without stopping to rest; unable to walk without assistance from another person or from a brace, cane, crutch, wheelchair or other prosthetic or assistive device; lung disease with forced respiratory, expiratory volume for one second, if measured by spirometry, is less than one liter, or the arterial oxygen tension is less than 60 mm/hg on room air at rest; uses portable oxygen; cardiac condition with Class 3 or 4 functional limitations as by American Heart Association standards; or severely limited in ability to walk due to an arthritic, neurological or orthopedic condition." I am quite familiar with each and every one of the disorders/ailments listed above as many of my clients are disabled. Judging from the woman's description above, the owner of the vehicle exhibited none of the aforementioned conditions and was illegally parking in the reserved space. I invite the owner to prove me wrong.

In response to my rant-- yes "this" person could have a very good and legit
reason for having the plaque, but flipping someone off tells me otherwise.
I had back surgery over 5 years ago. This year I spent two whole weeks of
PTO(paid time off - my vacation) laying on the floor because my back hurt so
bad I couldn't sit or stand. It took 2 months before I could see a specialist at
barrows medical downtown. I can't count how many times I've "hobbled" into the
pharmacy to get my perscriptions only to have to sit or stand with tears in my
eyes waiting for them because the pain was so great.
Do I have a plaque - no - Do I need a plaque - no - Will I need a plaque later in
my years - maybe.

** edit ** well there I go again -- sorry -- Just very frustrating to hear something
like this and to have it happen here. ** edit **

I really hope this person comes clean and apologizes to this women, It's the least
he could do. It's the best thing he could do.

I got a reply from the woman... the car was a dark, possibly black, Scion tC with occupants of Asian heritage.

I would like to make it clear that I am a handicapped person with an invisible handicap.....MS.....no wheelchair yet.......thank God. I rarely use handicapped spaces because I choose to leave them vacant for the wheelchair bunch.........which like Scion owners I don't belong to. When handicapped people see each other using the designated spaces it is not uncommon for us to fraternize and share what our handicap is..............so I did assume the non handicapped status of the Scion driver when I was "flipped off" after mouthing the words "shame on you". I was having a bad day and went to see a movie..........a comedy.............perhaps next time I will stay home and use this experience to write a script about "revenge of the cripples" hehe...........enjoy your Scions and never forget the experience of a woman who rode a motorcycle and horses all her life just wanting to park her pickup truck in a handicapped spot to go see a movie. Perhaps I shall return here in hopes of sponsorship or company on the 50 mile MS Challenge walk taking place on Cape Cod..........I walked it last year and hope to do it again cause I still can on the good days.

tell her that I would like to get involved in her MS Challenge. She can contact me through my email if she would like.

I am very sorry to hear about his, I won’t comment on the reasoning for using a handicap spot. We do no know the medical condition. As to the manner it which it was handled is unacceptable.

hey darren did you e-mail her back with an apology on behalf of all of us? It kind of sounds like she is generalizing all of us to be handicap hating drivers and i know that's not true. But i do know that the majority of us (with the exception of the people that actually did this) are very sorry to hear about this. Please tell her we're sorry.

Hmmm... Did anyone see a dark tC at the poker run with a handicap placard? I can't remember one but we should have enough info to figure out who it is and extract an apology.

As for Chad's suggestion... we could get involved in her event as a group from SL and Arizona.

Being that I took pictures of everyone at the poker run it should not be to hard to find out who it was. Mark, I can look through the mug books and give you the ones that may fit that description.

I would encourage this person to come forward anonymously and resolve this very unfortunate situation on there own terms.

BTW, I did snap a picture of the Honda sales man that was speeding through the parking lot. It was printed out and presented to the Honda GM and the salesman, last I heard he was on the way out the door.
